Default 2005 RX330 Coin Holder!

Several months ago I mentioned that I was pursuing a coin holder for my 05 RX330, a la the 2006 RX330. Thanks to the perseverance of my dealer's parts department, I am happy to report that I now have a coin holder.

Nothing is ever simple; there are actually two parts: the coin holder itself and the console box that clips onto the console and holds the coin holder. For those who are interested, here are the descriptions, part numbers and list prices.

Coin Holder..........PT364-48060..........$25.16
Console Box.........58823-0E010..........$25.55

That seems like a lot of "change"

Yes, it's pricey and probably not worth the money, but I got it at cost because I was the first (probably in the US) to force the issue and get Lexus USA parts to add it to their parts catalog -- just added this month. Also, I shopped around for a plain coin holder thinking I would velcro it inside the console. I tried a number of local chains and auto parts stores but no one had anything. So, with the discount and my desire to have one the price and opportunity were right.

I don't have any pictures of the parts, but if you visit your local Lexus dealership and look at the 2006 RX330 you will see what the parts look like -- they are the same parts I purchased. For unknown reasons, Lexus omitted the coin holder in 2005! And brought it back in 2006.

Often times it's better to be lucky than good. Because I was the first, and my dealership felt sorry that I had to wait four months, and because they are customer focused, they offered it to me at cost. I did not have to ask. In fact, as I mentioned before, I would not pay list price for these parts. But other folks on this forum had inquired and I promised I would post the parts if I was successful in identifying them.

I have a 2006 RX loaner today and it has the coin holder. I thought about it missing in my RXX400h, but never pursued it because I use EZ-Pass. Looking at it today, it's neat, but takes up space in the console (which I don't really fill right now) and I don't really see the need. Ironically, there isn't one in my '99 RX. I threw change into the ash tray or whatever that little drawer is on the left side of the dashboard.
Dealers throw in freebies to be nice. Mine put in(labor and part) a cargo net for me at my request.

I use EZ Pass, too, but always find a need for change in emergencies or when I have to feed a parking meter. [I used to save spare change for telephone booths ... remember them ... but now they have gone the way of the dinosaur. I also wonder if the coin holder has sufficient capacity for today's parking meter costs! ]
