Hybrids not living up to MPG hype... RX400h coming soon
I thought I posted this here but couldn't find it in a search. Wired.com is reporting the Honda and Toyota claims for MPG are way off. Could spell disaster for the permium Lexus plans to charge for the hybrid RX:

I was browsing around the Toyota Prius boards and most owners are reporting near or above 50 mpg. Seems like the Toyota hybrids are getting better gas mileage than the Honda Civic.

"Hybrid" Cars are misunderstoond by a lot of people. It does NOT necessary mean high mpg. All "Hybrid" mean is a combination of two different kind of power plant. As fa as I know for the RX, it will add 1or 2 (I think the AWD has two electric engines) eletric engines to the car and make the V6 engine perform like a V8.
So, the worst case is you will keep the V6 mpg and get the V8 power & performance. So in this case, the electric engine(s) is design for performance enhancement and not target to save gas.
