Default RX330 Trailer Hitch Installation Question

Has anyone installed a trailer hitch (Lexus or other brand) on the RX330 without the Towing Option package? I don't plan on doing heavy towing but the dealer won't install one because I don't have the TO package (bigger alternator, radiator). Is it safe to get it done elsewhere (like U-Haul)--like do they have drill holes into the body? Thanks for any info!

What do you plan on towing, how much does it weigh, and how often/over what distances will you tow? Also, is it hilly where you live? These are the variables that will help determine your answer.

More clarification on my previous post:

I'm planning on towing a small maybe 6 foot single axle trailer, of at most 500 pounds for short distances no more than 30 miles and only once in a while to pick up small plants and scrubs or bags of gravel. Perhaps other times, I may want to put a bike rack in the receiver instead. The area I live (San Bernardino County in Southern Calfiornia) is mostly flat.

I mainly wanted to know if there was any truth in what Lexus is saying that I need th TO package in terms of pre-drilled holes in the chassis where the hitch can be attached and how the wiring harness is connected to the electrical system. If I can't get it done at Lexus, are there any recommendations elsewhere. Thanks!

Did a quick search and found this link: http://www.hitches4less.com/20lerxcliii.html

Looks like pre-drilling is not necessary, and installation instructions are included. You could go to a local Hidden Hitch dealer for advice and installation.
