MODERATOR EDIT - markneups, please exit this thread. You've posted similar opinion many times in this thread and your comments are becoming increasingly inflammatory.

Compared to what?!? Its a map on a computer screen...how does one make it look "less outdated"?

Just copy googlemaps and compare to the map above:
-add topography
-higher resolution screens
-add smaller text and not assume we have bad eyes?
-make the boxes on left look like those on the right (remove those black boxes)
-add satellite view option
-i'm sure you could think of more if you really wanted

This is scores better than my 2010 though!

There are differences between what I want to look at on a computer screen and what I want to look at in a car when I'm driving down the road at 80 MPH. I don't want to see topography, I don't want to see a ton of small type that I don't need to see. How do you know there isn't a satellite view?

Higher resolution screens? Looks pretty high res to me, certainly as high res as the screen in any car.

Hey, you asked compared to what :P

With google and apple entering the car markets, the feature comparison is very real. Just because you don't need those features doesn't mean others won't find them beneficial (for example, your passenger/copilot). deusex is just pointing out that the lack of features makes the map outdated when compared to other similar nav technologies.

I don't know if there is a satellite view but I highly doubt it. It's all speculation based on what we see in the pics and it would be great if someone who has had a chance to play around with it could comment.

Also with "retina" screens being the new standard, who doesn't want a super high resolution monitor? If they can fit it in an iPad, then should be able to fit it into a luxury car.

The GS forum seems to indicate that the resolution is 1280 x 480 - a PPI of roughly 114 is hardly high resolution if those are really the specs, when compared to even the cheapest phone. For example, the $50-$100 Motorola Moto G with a low 720p resolution and a 4.5" screen has a PPI of 326.

Anyway I hope I am wrong.

why are you looking at GS forums to see how will new RX nav look like? It is all new, has nothing to do with GS nav at all.

It looks gazllion times better too... there are other pics of the interface and it is a lot improved - well, completely changed really.

Why do we still have two phantom pages that shouldn't technically exist?

We moved previous posts on this subject to a more appropriate place in THIS THREAD as part of the Site Suggestions & Problems subforum. Please go there for your answer.

Interface aside, does it not make sense that the 12" screen technology will be the same as the 12" screen in the GS? I am referring to purely to resolution and not to the UI.

I was reading up on the 2016 Q7 and found this gem as well, which is also a good comparison:

..."ultra-big (12.3-inch), ultra-bright (850 candela/square meter brightness — double that of a typical smartphone), extra-high-def (1,440 x 540 resolution), fast refreshing (60 frames per second) "virtual cockpit" instrument-panel display. Not even noonday Namibian desert sunlight streaming through my panoramic sunroof washes out the Google Earth satellite image of this stark scenery."

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...7_first_drive/

1440x540 resolution and 60fps with Google Earth satellite images! Resolution still low compared to modern devices but it sounds like it was a sacrifice to increase brightness. Sounds like the satellite images rely on 4G LTE though...only worthwhile if the car can tether to the phone.

Seeing that the GS came out 4 years ago basically I wouldn't assume the screens are the same at all. They're the same size, thats all.

I hope you are right, true high-resolution screens should be inexpensive enough by now to be used in cars. But if the 2nd Gen Q7 can only eke out 1440x540, I don't expect that Lexus is going to be able to do a lot better than 1280x480.

Again, I hope I am wrong.
