Default Legroom

I heard him talk about increased rear passenger leg room. Is there any info on increased driver leg room?

Is that big predator grill with the big L over the top or just close?

I see a little window in the blacked out C pillar in some photos, but perhaps not all. Any word on that? It sure would help with rear visibility.

Not bad overall but it may not be what traditional RX customers be comfortable in terms of exterior design.

One thing about Lexus has always been that their designs were tame but aged very well.
While this new design is more extreme, it may get old very fast.

I personally feel the NX looks better and is more suited for the aggresive design language.

The RX interior looks to be a huge step up in terms of quality compared to current model.

Go ahead and find one. You won't because it doesn't exist . The Q5/Macan are based off of the MLB platform. The Tiguan, which does come in FWD-only, is based on the VW A5 platform, same one as the Q3. Perhaps you are getting your Q's mixed up.

Believe me, I'm not a fan of the overhang too, but then again I'm more interested in what's underneath the sheet metal.

So this "new" RX looks a lot like the Mazda CX line. #sickface

The Mazda doesn't have the floating roof, but it has the god-awful nose and and plastic wheel trim. And the side profile looks dead on as well. Saw one at lunch and wanted to vomit.

All for the bargain price of $20K.

So they are trying to get more men to buy them but Im not sure many women will like that styling. Looks chunky and masculine. Before the lines were smoother. I love the interior

So this will have a touch free lift gate but you have to pause your hand over the Lexus logo? That seems like they went out of their way to make it different from other touch free systems, except worse. How are you supposed to do that when your hands are full. I thought the whole purpose was to use your legs which are always free

The 2016 Lexus RX is Here

The Lexus NX has been getting a lot of attention lately, but now its time for the original high-riding Lexus hit, the RX, to roll into the spotlight again. It's all new for the 2016 model year and it's on display at the 2015 New York International Auto Show.

The spiral center console is a watered-down version of the LFLC.

Perhaps the design language will be translated to other models in the future...

My engine speculation is that we're looking at a 2GR block in the US:

RX350: 2GR-FSE with VVT-iW and D4S
RX450h: 2GR-FXE with VVT-iE or VVT-i and possibly D4S
  • VVT-iW will be borrowed from the NX200t 8AR-FTS and will enable otto/atkinson switching in the 350.
  • VVT-iE - the iE may be new to the 450h and will be atkinson only as it will be fuel economy focused. NX300h 2AR-FXE only has VVT-i.
  • S may be new to the 350 and will introduce the swirl intake as done in the NX200t. New Tacoma 2GR-FSE has the S. NX300h does not have an S.
  • SE could also mean D-4 Gasoline direct injection and represent D4-S
  • Hybrid powertrain improvements borrowed from 4th Generation Prius via better (li-ion?) batteries and denser motors
So it seems like some new engine technology for the 350, while the already advanced 450h will primarily benefit from hybrid powertrain improvements. Does not sound like "all-new" engines to me at all, but still a good step forward.

Here's what Lexus may (or may not) bring to the table:
  • Weight loss
  • New engine with D4S with atkinson/otto switching
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Color HUD
  • i-AFS - the return of swiveling, tilting headlamps
  • CarPlay - unlikely
  • Electronic parking brake
  • 360 camera
  • 450h: Available US F-Sport package or appearance package
  • 450h: New hybrid powertrain
I have a feeling that Lexus is not going to do much since they are already the king of the hill, even though other brands have already closed the gap in terms of features. My guess is that they will head to the mass market even more by removing features, which means they will lose customers looking for luxury. Please prove me wrong Lexus. Less than 48 hours to the reveal!
Updating what I wrote above with what was announced. That large front overhang is very unfortunate.

Included:
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Color HUD
  • Electronic parking brake
  • 450h: Available US F-Sport package or appearance package

Not mentioned:
  • Weight loss - this is a serious omission
  • Atkinson/otto switching
  • i-AFS - swiveling, tilting headlamps - bring it back!
  • CarPlay
  • 450h: New hybrid powertrain - where are you???

New to RX:
  • Heated power folding rear seats
  • 12.3" monitor
  • 300hp DI
  • Adaptable Variable Suspension (AVS)
  • Michelin Premier EverGrip
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Panoramic View Monitor (PVM)
  • 20-inch alloy wheels with graphite finish
  • Sunglasses holder - hopefully won't be replaced with useless SOS
  • Touch free lift gate

Did I miss anything?

Yep, hate the plastic wheel trim.....just like I hate the plastic lower trim on the current RX (I am going to paint mine the body color)

The plastic trim on current RX actually does a good job. I take my car off-road sometimes and if it were paint, it would get destroyed.

The plastic wheel trim on the other hand is useless and I've never scratched that area.
