Transmission clunking on the way to work
I have a 1999 RX300 AWD. It's got about 78K miles on it. Mixed city and highway driving.
Has had all the major services every 15K miles, never towed anything with it.
When I let off the gas, and then get back on it, aka coast for a bit, sometimes the transmission clunks back into gear. Similarly to pressing the clutch in for a brief second on a manual car.
Any thoughts on this? I searched around and saw teh Jebeda had his entire transmission fail, as well as a couple other people. I hope this is not the case. My car does not clunk into reverse or forward. Just does this clunking back into gear thing every once and a while.
Suggestions? Comments?
Thanks in advance.

My 1998 Volvo Cross Country did the same thing. One of the salespeople told service to replace the transmission fluid. Problem solved. Don't know if it's the same for a Lexus, but both have a viscous coupling center defferential.

Tran fluid
I thought about that, I just had the transmission fluid changed with Type 4, about 100 miles ago.
I wander if they screwed something up in there?
Thanks,
Todd

A previous dealer at orginally put in Castrol Dex-III ATF. When I moved down here I made a return trip to San Antonio, and they spotted the issue and replaced it with Type-IV. Big difference.
You may want to check how your dealer removed the old fluid. I know of three ways.
Draining- gets practically nothing out.
Two-Fluids method- this get somewhere between 75-85% out and is widely used by Lexus dealers without a pumping system
The pump- This is your best method and will remove virtually all of the old fluid.
Give 400 more miles. I never experienced this issue though, but somtimes new fluids need time to work in.
