Hello, I just replaced all of my tires today.

After that, I noticed that random metal sound comes from the front left comer, when the vehicle starts from a stop (ex. starts from a stop sign), just for 2-3 seconds. After that, the sound disappears. The vehicle runs well as before, no significant difference from before, except the sound.

I am also not sure if this is related to tire replacement work. (I did in american tire, the chain shop )

The sound only lasts 2-3 seconds, I can not check it by myself.

Could you provide me some possible scenarios? Thanks,

I would take the vehicle back to where you had the tires installed.

Next option is to jack the side which makes the noise. For FWD put he shifter in N spin the wheel by hand. An assistant can apply and release the brakes to create similar scenario. Just exercise caution when the wheel is not on the ground

One time I had a tire guy put the weights too far inside the wheel and they rubbed the brake caliper. Had to have them redo the balancing and put the weights where they should be.
Seems like you have to double check everything that mechanics do, even at the dealer, from doing a simple oil change to over torquing lug nuts with their air guns.

hello, I just drive my car to examine the sound again. It is not only appears from stop to start, but randomly appears at low speed .

I record a short video to show the sound:


(the sound appears at 12 sec, 26 sec, and more after 45 sec.

1. I didn't press the brake pedal during this period
2. The metal sound is more ‘crisp’ in the real world than the video
3. The sound appears randomly, sometimes once per occurrence, sometimes several per occurrence.
4. The sound only appears at this speed level. If at higher speed, i.e. transmission shift to gear 2 or above, such sound was disappeared.
5. it comes from left front corner.


Would you please help me to understand what kind of problem may produce such sound?
The tire shop is closed today, and I have to drive my car tomorrow.

Sounds like a rotor splash shield to me. Maybe one got bent a little and it's dragging on the rotor some.

If you had hubcaps, I would have said something was inside the hubcap.
Maybe something inside the tire? That would be weird but would make it random.
Double check your lug nuts too. Tire guys are not mechanics, I've seen them do strange things like lower the car all the way down to the pavement then tighten the lugs. And seen the tire guy not tighten them at all (that was scary). That too would make the noise I heard on your video. So please take a minute and check your lugs.
Definitely something loose and a sound you shouldn't hear from just getting tires.

What are the odds of some one watching your video and diagnosing the problem?

You really should jack the vehicle up and use your ear-***** (term I learned form Code .. miss his post) to focus on the source of the sound. Sound starts by vibration ... do a gentle touch on the splash shield mentioned by carguy, to see immediate change in the sound (you should be able to feel it too).

Is it safe to drive? I would always err on the side of the safety.

I'd first try jacking up the car and loosening all the lugs on the suspected corner, then tighten in a proper star pattern up to torque spec and again re-torque on the ground. Sometimes if the wheels are improperly torqued, they can give off weird creaking metallic noises.

Just fixed it by installer.

They told me "a rock went into the tire during the car running".

How the hell can a rock go inside the tire, except it is during the installation process?

Glad it was only that.
I did say that I thought it sounded like something inside. Heard that noise before.
And there is only 1 way for a rock (I bet it was a washer or lug nut, not a rock, it was metal to metal sound) to get inside and that is during installation.
