Default Quick simple question about a loose rear side light on RX300

Hi

I have a 2002 RX 300. The light in the picture below is a bit loose.

Do you know if it needs to be replaced or is there any way I can fix this one?

Sorry if this is a basic question, I am very new to DIY car maintenance and here to learn.

Also, if anyone can educate me on what that light is called, it will be very helpful.

Thanks,
oxonian

That is referred to as the side marker light. It's hard to see in your picture, but it looks like it may be damaged. Perhaps it's just the way the picture was taken.

You can find DIY instructions on post #10 here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ml#post7035497
Although the instructions are for bulb replacement, you will be able to access the bolt that holds the side marker light on using the same instructions.

Thank you hypervish.

Will I likely have to order a new side light? And if so, are you able to recommend any source for it?

I really appreciate your help!

Thanks,
oxonian

You're welcome.

Is the side marker damaged? It's hard to tell from the photo. If it is then I recommend replacing it. They are fairly inexpensive to replace. Aftermarket marker is available for $14 from RockAuto plus shipping.

Is the bulb loose or the side-light is loose in the bumper?

The side-light is held by one screw and the other end has a V notch that gets in the bumper skin. Hopefully you can reach the screw head, else you will have to remove the bumper.

My side-lights have faded over time. I would have to replace in pairs or really all 4 (one on each end) to match.

Thank you friends.

I will check this evening and share more information on whether it is broken or loose!

You guys are the best!

Salim - I took my car to Soul Speed for alignment and Colin said hello to you.

Thanks,
Oxonian

Here are some more pictures...I wonder if the light is broken or some connector is loose?

Thanks!

You see the prong on the left side ... this hooks on to the bumper. The right side has a square and that has a screw and fender washer (large oversize). If you look through the square hole (with light) you will see the the screw hanging in there (if it has not fallen off).

Were you involved in an accident?

All the above has to do with mechanical attachment of the fixture.

+1.

Yeah, looks like some sort of collision occurred there. You can see where it was held on using duct tape as well. LOL

Look's like the right side is broken, the part where the screw goes onto.

Hi friends,

Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it.

The car was not in a collision, not that I know of, and me and my partner are the only drivers.

So if you see additional signs of a collision, please let me know...I will need to look into it....maybe someone hit it in the parking lot.

About the duct tape...that was me, I put it as it was loose.

As for the light, will I need to order a new one and replace it?

Thank you,
Oxonian

Could have been something as simple as a shopping cart that hit it. Doesn't look like it was anything severe, as there doesn't seem to be any damage in the surrounding area. Anyways, that's besides the point, we'll never know... haha

Yeah, the light needs to be replaced. The right side looks to be damaged, there should be a stud sticking out.

Hi Hypervish,

Thank you for your continued assistance, I am grateful.

I will order the part via rockauto, will I need tools as well?

You seem very knowledgeable about cars, can I ask you another question about this RX300?

Thanks,
Oxonian

You're welcome!

Yes, you will need a 10mm socket, phillips screwdriver, and an allen key (not sure which size, hopefully someone else knows the size offhand).

Feel free to ask as many questions that you have (perhaps create a different thread if it's about a different topic). That's why we are all here. This community is built to help one another. I may not know the answer, but surely someone will have something useful to add.

Hi hypervish,

Thank you so much. I found the part - 2002 Lexus RX300 Red Rear Side Marker Light Driver Side on 1aauto, I could not find it on rockauto.

I presume this is the correct part, it looks the same.

I was wondering if you recommend any option for bluetooth audio connectivity, I would like to use it to stream music from my phone as well as to make handsfree phone calls. I have seen an option with Grom,....is that the way to go?

Thank you!

If you want to purchase it from RockAuto (compare the prices, i'm not sure which is cheaper), here's the link: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...rtnum=18598800
If link doesn't work, search "TYC 18598800"
Just click "add to cart" in the top left... Also, here's a discount code for 5% off: 2902055626680463

Regarding the GROM, read through this thread and continue the discussion there: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...tallation.html
It's still working perfectly for me, but as you can see from the thread some people have had trouble with it.
