Default 2002 RX-300 ECU-B 7.5 Amp Fuse Blowing

First thanks for this forum as I have been studying it now for about 3 weeks but alas, I must post.

My sweeties' 2002 RX-300 started throwing code P1135 with the well documented TRAC Off/VSC and CEL...

I ordered the Bank1 sensor 1 and it arrived today but it was too late...let me explain why.

My wife was in a hospital parking garage yesterday and her Lexus just quit...died and she coasted into a lucky parking spot.

I came to rescue her and I had just replaced the battery 2 days before and sure enough the engine would turn over like gang busters but would not ignite...tells me a fuel delivery issue.

So, I look into the fuse block under the hood and found the 7.5 amp, ECU-b fuse blown. so, I went to the closest auto , got a pack and replaced it and she cranked right up and ran fine until this afternoon.

I had to run to town so she asked me to take the Lexus to see if it was indeed ok, even though it still had the before mentioned lights she ran great until I got on the interstate and the Lexus died again..just like in the hospital parking garage..I'm just glad there wasn't a big rig on my tail.

Anyway, I had several fuses which I would then replace, drive maybe a 1/4 mile then it would die again...I mean die like you turned the key off and threw it out of the window. (very dangerous situation)

I have searched and searched forums and the internet and haven't found this particular issue. I guess this may be a moot point as far as my $$ is concerned because the b1s1 sensor came in today before I had a chance to replace it ....so my wife brought it to me to give to the wrecker to then give to the mechanic....

So, even though it is now in the mechanics hands...has anyone reading this had this problem and what was the resolution?

I tend to still think it is the heater circuit in the sensor...but why blow this fuse and shut down the engine putting my wife...me..in a dangerous situation.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or input.

Welcome to Club Lexus!

The A/F sensor would not cause the car to stall that violently or blow a fuse.

I believe you have another problem, and the A/F sensor may not even be bad or this issue happened at the same time and coincidentally the car has started to stall.

This is nearly impossible to diagnose accurately over the internet. Will be interesting to hear what the mechanic says.

thanks for the prompt reply....

What kinda comes to mind is the anti-theft thing...since I'm not sure how that works could be this be a symptom of that system?

Thanks!

Unlikely because the immobilizer wouldn't allow the car to start at all if that were the case.

You're welcome.

Just to update for anyone listening in...

The mechanic changed the B1S1 and after driving it the long way home there hasn't been a CEL or any other burp...

He charged me $45 to change it and the tow was $89. His opinion was that because the terminals were so close together on the sensor end that he can only guess that somehow voltage was getting fed back to the fuse from the sensor end and that was blowing the fuse because otherwise this sensor should not blow the fuse.

I will say that I am not 100% confident but he drove it, and I drove it probably 20 miles from his shop so, time will tell.

thanks again for this forum and the knowledge base.

That's interesting, I've never heard that before. I hope it's fixed though.

Keep us updated!

I just talked to him again on the phone and he said he was still scratching his head also because this was the first he had ran into this problem also because most of his work is Lexus and Toyotas.

That is why I chose him.

He did suggest that I change the other one which if I remember correctly is not too hard to get to.

Would that be sensor (Bank1 Sensor 2 I'm guessing?) be the same part number you reckon?

My eyes are glazing over reading so many forum posts...

thanks in advance...

Just a note to close this thread for those listening..

I have driven the Rx for several days now and all is well so my confidence is 100% B1S1 was the problem.

thanks again for this site guys!
