Default P1354 fixed now p1346

Hi everyone I got a problem with my '99 rx. It started acting up one day, had rough idle and hard brake pedal when the engine was running rough. Scanned it with my elm 232 and got code p1354 ocv valve bank 2...changed it and the problem and cel cleared for nearly 2 weeks. Now the engine started running rough again and got code p1346 (timing problem) and a whole bunch of misfire codes on bank 1. Could my timing belt have jumped? Truck had 250000km and I believe the timing belt was replaced sometime in the 100s.

Yep, the timing belt needs replacing usually it causes the misfires, it's rare for it to ship or break a tooth but it happens.

Did you service OCV bank1? If not I would do that.

I didn't service the bank 1 ocv. Can I test the bank 1 by powering it up at idle to see if the engine bogs down? I mean is it a conclusive test or not?

Open and clean and test by applying 12 volts and observing the relay operation. When servicing, I tend to service both (or all).

Took the car to the mechanic, he cleaned the bank 1 OCV valve and screen then said the problem went away and cel came off. I told him to keep the car and drive it around a little to see if it reoccurs. The next day the trouble returned now with different codes, he recommends changing 1,3,5 coil packs and cam sensor-says the timing belt isn't the problem. This lexus is braving like an old BMW!

Ok we're going to change the timing belt, it must be that. I'll post the results.

Im definitely no expert; but; from what it sounds like to me; it sounds to me like the timing belt definitely went bye bye.

Bad news, mechanic checked timing belt and said the belt is in good condition, was changed before and timing marks line up. He suspected bad coil(s) either 2,4,6, removed the intake and found a leaking intake manifold gasket-so replaced and said it was fixed. Trouble came back shortly with the same codes again p0300,301,303,305 and p1346. He said it must be the bank 2 cam sensor and replaced but still same problem, mechanic stumped. I'm thinking maybe just cleaning the bank 2 ocv wasn't enough and it just needs to be replaced, or the bank 2 Vvt gears/controller is the problem. Maybe I need a mechanic with proper test equipment like a scope.

The OCV is $72.00 at Autozone . If you had just replaced that to begin with think of all the money you would have saved .
Went on YouTube and found the fix in 20 minutes.
I just replaced mine . Runs purrfect .
Almost spent $500.00 for a timing belt install .

Finally got back the truck and mechanic says problem fixed after changing bank 2 cam sensor. So far it is driving normally and I hope it stays that way because when the trouble started I changed the bank 2 ocv and it was okay for nearly 2 weeks then problem returned. So for $900 at mechanic he cleaned ocv bank 1 solenoid and filter, checked timing (belt still in good condition) and all marks line up, replaced leaking intake gasket and 2 other gaskets, replaced both cam sensors. Go figure.
