I would suggest that instead of working blindly, ask the mechanic to trace back the primary side of the coil.
It may turn out to be crank/cam position sensor wire or even if the mechanic forgot to put the magnet ring on the crank shaft.
At this stage the problem has to be electromechanical. Just my guess.
