Silicone spray fixed my "dead" ignition
I posted last month or so that my '99 RX 300 at times had a "dead" ignition and at times started up. When it was "dead", the steering wheel seemed like it lost power steering and when I turned the key, absolutely nothing happened, like a completely dead battery, but all accessories worked. A friend who is handy suggested that since the RX was old (in service June '98) and 1/4 mil miles on it, perhaps the ignition was "gunked up" and he suggested silicone spray. I went to Advance Auto where I find the workers are pretty knowledgeable. I asked for silicone spray, and the employee first asked why with a tone that I was going to make a mistake - I explained the symptoms and he did an about face and thought it may be a fix.
Sure enough I used it, and have had no trouble since. I could not find anyone posting about this issue anywhere, but with our first gens getting quite old, perhaps others will come across this issue so I figured I would post about it. This is the product I used: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/l...4603/7070063-P
I can't believe my RX will be 17 years old in June.

Where did you spray it? Into the Ignition Lock assembly? Or was it used under the hood someplace?

Directly into the ignition lock assembly - the product comes with a thin straw for the application. I sprayed for about 1 second until silicone began running out of the ignition.
