RX Running rough but No CEL
Hi all -
First post here. Background:
The other day we were driving the RX and the CEL gang of lights lit up and the car would not shift into overdrive. I literally just replaced the knock sensors and spark plugs about 500 miles ago so I do not think that is the problem. So, since we were a long ways from home, I disconnected the battery to clear the code, drove home like normal and the lights have not come on since. The problem I have is the car just does not sound right. It sounds like the engine is idling and driving rough. I can not put my finger on it, but something is off. The car simply does not purr like she usually does... Is it possible to have a bad ignition coil and NOT have the check engine light come on?
Please Help.
Thanks!

welcome to CL.
I would suggest getting the codes read.
You may have pending codes.
Are you basing the purr based on the sound or the rpm gauge is jumping around, If it is sound then exhaust may have leak.

Fill your car (only to 15 gallon's as shown on the bottle) with premium gas, then pour in a bottle of this techron fuel system cleaner and try to drive the car as rough and aggressive as you can. another way I did it was to merge onto a freeway full throttle to about 100mph then about 80 for a few miles, exited and did it again. I did this 5 times to ensure that this cleaned out the whole fuel system. once I did those runs on my 02 rx300 it purred like a kitten and had no more hesitation.

Had yours also thrown a check engine light before doing this?
I got my codes read after they came on and I disconnected the battery. No codes, nada, nothing showed up as a problem.

Yes in fact it did, I got it checked but can quite remember it...but I ran this cleaner through and did exactly what you did (remove battery terminals and reconnect) and no codes no problem accelerating, I'm always the first car pulling away when the light turns green lol 👍😊

I think the 100mph => 100 miles (distance) .
With cleaners, remember to follow through with an oil change. The unburnt stuff gets in the oil.

Thank you salim I ment to say 100 miles not mph my smartphone has been acting strange and I didn't see that mistake although I have got the rx300 to 100 (mph) on a farm road and it was pretty stable guess the new sway bars and shocks not to mention tires really helped out

You can drive 60 mph with the overdrive off to keep the engine speed high enough to "clean" the whatever you think is getting cleaned. RX is not a safe vehicle at 100 mph and the slightest steering maneuver can cause it to lose control.
