whats your highway rpms and at what speed
my 99 rex 300 awd is running very very high rpms on the highway, i want to compare the rpm and mph to your cars to see how far off my car is

Well when this model of Rx was made years 99-03 only had a 4 speed transmission so 40mph- 2100 rpm 60mph- 2600 rpm 80mph- 3200rpm 100mph- 4000+ rpm

The four people responded all are saying something totally different...
I'll drive ours tomorrow and report back - probably with something different too..Gotta love internet data collection..

Thank you i did this test a few month's ago also if its windy the rpm's can change about 200 more rpm depending on the wind drag and what type of octane and transmission you have (fwd or awd) as for me my and my test there was really no wind and my 2002 rx300 is Awd

its a 1999 Lexus Rx 300 awd, with the limited slip torsen option, roof rack, tow prep package, on stock 225/70/r16 Goodyear assurance tires. 164,000 miles and still running strong as always . i drove down to Florida not to long ago, at 80 mph it was between 3900-4100 rpm. i thought that this was ridiculously high, because overdrive was on. but i also looked at the LCD, in dash info system that said it was averaging around 20 does this sound normal

No that doesn't sound normal @ 4,100rpm's im going passed 100mph and at 80mph im doing 3,100rpm's ,the readings your getting is what i had before my transmission fluid change...my fluid was black and once i changed it it shifted smooth as silk and the rpm's droped a good amount... Maby you need that done??

A transmission fluid change can not change the gear ratio and/or the amount of gears. It is unlikely that you were running lower rpms after your transmission fluid change. Unless your fluid was so bad the torque converter was not locking, although i've never seen a situation where dirty fluid caused that.
