Default Rough Idle/shaking, Blinking Cil, Replaced Ocv 4 Mo Ago

Codes:

p0301

p0303

p0304

p0305

p0172 (system too rich bank 1)

Determined that OCV needed replacing a few months ago and that solved my problems for awhile. Still a little hesitation on acceleration, but mostly good.

Have had small oil leak since forever, so bought an additive during last oil change 10 days ago (Sears) that was supposed to fix it.

Suddenly CIL came on and is usually blinking, and car really shakes at certain tork.

Coils? Plugs? Wires? Change the oil again to get that additive crap out? Please tell me not OCV again. Any thoughts? Help is greatly appreciated. Still runs consitently so i'm not without transportation.

No takers? ANY help is greatly appreciated. I'm thinking the system too rich could be the cause??

Their all miss fire codes. And I would certainly not drive it this way.

Cylinder misfire;

1,3,4,5 only 2 & 6 must be firing properly. BTW, whats an OCV?

Yes, but what is causing the misfires. The last code is system too rich. OCV is oil control valves which is a common problem for this car. Easy home replacement

Have you checked your MAF sensor?
With that many cylinders misfiring, I'd be looking upstream.

the system is too rich because of all the miss firing going on. If you fix that problem (which may be the coils) then that code should disappear.

Ok. Update.

I've been really really busy and haven't had a change to clean the MAF sensor. I did buy the liquid so that's first up. Then if that doesn't do it, then the plugs and wires. If that doesn't do it, then the coils.

HOWEVER NEW PROBLEMS:
NO NEW CODES (Cylinder 3,4,5 misfires, random misfire, system too rich)

New problem 1 - is an obviously louder exhaust sounding noise from engine (this happened before with the OCV issue and when away when replaced)

New problem 2 - is sometimes I get nothing when trying to start. No attempt at turning over, no sound at all. Turning all the way off then back to start gets nothing. Leaving in the on position, then back to start it will start up normal and strong.
Possibly coincidentally, I locked then unlocked the doors from inside before doing this in case it was an alarm issue. Not sure if this is related.

Is all this related to the above, and to not taking care of this right away?

Would these wires fit? Says no, but why wouldn't it?

New Update:

Cleaned the MAF sensor using the DIY on here. It didn't look even a little dirty, but I cleaned it anyway. The DIY suggested to look at the air filter (that should be checked with all my oil changes). I did and it was just filthy! I went to the auto parts shop and picked one up for $15.

I don't know which of the above fixed it, but zero CIL faults, zero shuddering. I only drove it for 5-10 minutes, but seemed really great. I'm going to call this fixed, but will come back if it does.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I'm still going to go after the plugs wires and coils once they all get here since I know they haven't been touched at least since I've owned it, and maybe since 1999!

Update 3

Shaking is back. CIL back. Moving on to plugs as soon as they get here.

Check Air Fuel Sensor (A/F Bank 1 sensor 1) - accessible under front passenger (see DIY)

The other end of sensor is a plug, unplug it, get a multimeter, probe/measure the resistance (within spec is
11-16ohms at 20degC/68F) - if it measure "open" then that sensor is the problem.

(You can practice unpluging (just the plug-end, not the sensor) using Air Fuel sensor Bank2Sensor1 which is located under the hood, near coolant - you can also compare your resistance measurements to these sensor).

Good Luck.

-Mike

Clear codes and read on first onset. Diagnose with the codes.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I will get a multimeter and try that. However, I did replace this less than a year ago. Could it go bad again so quickly?

300 (Random misfire)
304 (Cylinder 4 misfire)
305 (Cylinder 5 misfire)
305 pending

Am I on the right track with plugs next? And which cylinders are 4 and 5? I think I understand they are both on the front head? Or is that just 4?

Could fuel injector cleaner help?

Please read Having Problems start here Mega sticky thread for cylinder number.

Looks like coil-packs or spark plug issue.

Spark plugs need to be replaced at 110K miles. I would suggest OEM.

You can move coilpacks and see if the problem moves to confirm it is the coilpack and not the plug. Much easier dealing with 1,3 &5

Thanks for the reply Salim. I'll be able to pull the plugs Friday, and do the coils the same day if the problem isn't solved.

Looking at the mega sticky, I see that the front of the car has 2,4,6 and further back is 1,3,5. I am wondering if that is in order from left to right? So 5 would be in the back right? 4 obviously in the middle front?

Was the intermittent starting issue related or something different?

Thanks!!!
