A/C Efficiency/Load Question
Hey all, hope everyone is doing well.
I have a few questions on what is the best for A/C compressor life and fuel economy. Excuse my stupidity as some of these questions may be simple for you.
Is it better to have the fan speed higher and the temp set up higher?
For example, is it better to have it on "AUTO" set at 75 in which case the fan speed will be full blast for the first 5 minutes, and then it usually settles to 3 or 4.
OR.
Have the A/C manually set at 72 with only fan speed on 1.
Which is best for fuel economy?
Is there a difference in fuel economy if I turn the fan speed up? I understand the compressor will run longer if I lower the temp, correct?
Once again, sorry for the basic questions. I've always wondered about this, but never really had the courage to ask what seems like such a basic question. lol

There is another dimension to your question (which you did not ask) and that is 'comfort'.
The a/c system in Lexus is geared towards comfort ... reaching the desired level as soon as possible. I set mine on auto and forget about it ... other than when fog sets in or I want the comp off.
Sorry hyper ... I did not answer the specific question you asked.

Also the recirc setting runs the compressor much less, and keeps the cabin humidity at the lowest possible level because it is not drawing in the humid outside air. So this is probably the best thing you can do to extend the compressor life. (it`s also what I do)

Thanks, yeah I generally always try and use recirculation.
