Default Buying an RX300

I'm looking at buying an AWD RX300 in the next month and want to spend around 7k. I was wondering what I should be looking out for when I go to buy one. I plan on buying it private party.

Get the newest one possible, definitely after the mid-cycle facelift (headlights and tailights are different). 2002 I think. Minimizes chance of defective transmission too. Get service records, check carfax, have inspected by competent Lexus or Toyota mechanic. Consider removing front valve cover to check for sludge.

Yeah reading through the forum it seems the 2 biggest headaches are the potential engine sludge and a bad transmission.

2001.

And, I agree go with an 01' or newer. They did a few minor improvements which are worth holding out for an 01' or newer.

Make sure timing belt has been done, as I imagine you'll be looking in a range with well more than 90,000 miles. I have two '99's I've been very happy with, so don't necessarily avoid the earlier models (in my opinion). But as mentioned above, go for the newest one you can afford. You'll love it!

I just bought a 99 AWD for 5500. Have you had any luck finding what you are looking for.
