2001 rx300 Heater Blend Door Actuator

I have owned a 2001 RX300 with 200k miles since new...well maintained and runs great except for the heater/ac actuator. The control no longer controls the vent location. I understand that this could be a faulty actuator.

I need help in ideas on repair....in Chicago winters I really need the windshield defrost cycle

Please search "servo" .. from your description it seems like the mode servo is messed up. You can verify by changing the mode control. There is a temp servo too that controls ac-heater blending.

My temp servo went out on my 01 awhile back.

air mix servo 2001 Lexus rx300

Thanks for the tip to search "air flow servo" I now know my problem with directing air to vents is a an air mix servo problem

Most threads describe a noise in the dash before the motors fail. In my case both the driver side and passenger sides are locked in the floor position. There was no noise...the air flow to the vents just stopped working no matter where i place the control

Is there any other cause that would make both sides stop functioning at the same time or do i start with removing the servo motors?

I beg to differ. Your problem seems to be the 'mode' which controls the air flow from different vents. Double/tripple check or pay a mechanic. The servos are not cheap and usually not returnable. IMHO your servo is stuck and that is why you dont hear a chatter.

There is a possibility that I am failing to understand your problem/description.

You can remove the servo and manually move the levers the servo drives.

Thanks...the mode switch just stopped directing air to different vent locations with no noise

Do you have a suggestion on how to check the mode switch without removing the dash panel

salimshah 01-06-13 09:28 AM

Most likely it is the servo and not the switch. If I am not mistaken the switch feeds the climate ecu and that sends the signal and gets information from the servo. When you set the control to 'auto' then the switch is bypassed. If 'auto' works and not the switch then the problem would be with the switch.

I would disconnect the servo and manually move the links to make sure things are not binding.

In any case lot easier dealing with servo than the switch or the ecu.

after removing the radio and then putting back together the ac won't blow cold. it blows very hot
at the 65 degree setting. I see all the posts about the servos. How do I determine which servo might not be working. when I turn the degree setting I can see a servo turn which one is this and how do I tell if it's functioning ok

Although your hunch about servo can be right, but most likely it is a connector not seated in the head unit ... the area that you worked on.

Please search on servo as there are multiple photos identifying each mode and mix servo.

Have you had your Windshield replaced? The Deforst breaks?

I have a 00 RX300 with 200k miles on it. No problems until a rock hit the windshild last week and I had to have it replaced. They did a shotty job and now my defrost decided to break. Turns out it is pulling a code 21 Solar Sensor, which is related to the defrost and the heating vent only blows out hot air in your face no matter whenre it tells you it is blowing or what temperature it is at. Anyoone have this problem or any suggestions of this "coincodence?' Please help...
