Its probably a rare occurance but my guess is the ones who broke a timing belt no longer own the RX.

The unanswered question is .. how many T belt changes would you save by extending the recommended interval in the lifetime of the vehicle? For folks who say they intend to sell the RX and it would be the next person who would do the change, then they will have to reduce the selling price. The only answer that satisfies my question is ... the RX gets totalled .. but that is something we dont wish to happen.

I certainly dont mean that one should go for the replacement at exactly 90k ... but going beyond is increasing the risk [from 0.0001 failure rate to something higher .. fictitious number]. And dont forget there the T belt drive train needs to be examined.

JAB, I waited until 115,00 miles to change my daughter's timing belt and I almost waited too long. She had been complaining about it making weird noises which I could never get it to do when I drove it. Well with her off at college I finally got around to changing it over summer break, and the noises she was hearing have never returned since. I didn't get to see the belt as I had it done at a Toyota dealership in a town she staying at on her break. I can't help but believe that noise was the belt braking apart slowly. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't recommend going much longer.
