First mpg return in my "new" 2000 RX300
Two days and 150 miles older, my guy got 18.7 hand calculated mpg.......85 octane at 7000' altitude.......have to drive from 4500' to 7000', 6% grade, to get to home from where I purchased the car....have to do this trip quite often, so it will be a constant part of my driving pattern. My local driving ranges from 6-7000', 80% highway driving....45-75 mph. I refilled with 88 octane, will see how that works. Bottom line, I'm reasonably pleased with the mpg. 114K miles on my guy when I bought it...seems to be in great shape. Previous owner was in Colorado, had regular service according to Carfax, and changed timing belt at 87,920 according to sticker under the hood. Paid $8.5K if that's of interest to anyone.
Only blem so far is antenna, which doesn't power up or down, but I use the audio for books on CD most of the time, so this is not a big deal. I've pulled it up halfway by hand, and it does work. I think there is a booster antenna built into the rear driver side quarter panel window which is nice...in any case I do get good FM reception.
Also, this morning the "rear light failure" warning light was on for about 40 miles. I checked all rear lights except brake and back-up ( I was alone) and found no problem. Warning light went away after a bit.
Bought this care after 3 months of research on 4x4 suvs under $10K....boiled down to Acura MDX, T-Highlander and RX300. Didn't like the way the MDX second row when flat (I cart 3 dogs around) and would've gone with a good Highlander if I would have found it before I found this RX.
I think I made a good choice here...have owned many cars (I'm 76) an am coming out of an 01 Excursion Diesel with which I pulled a 9000 lb. travel trailer for years. Sold the combo and just looking for a good suv where my dogs will ride comfortably get me in and out of home, which is at 7000', 2 miles past the end of the pavement and up two short 10% dugways. This RX will do the trick (so far).

The antenna on my wife's RX300 has been replaced once, by the dealership. I think it was a little over $100. But it is sticking again. I don't know if there is a solution. But I am looking for one on here.
Good luck with you new RX300!

I just did a hand calculation of my mileage on my 99 w/ 125k miles. Running about 98% highway @ 62-65 mph using cruise control I only got 22.4 mpg. I have brand new plugs and air filter. Was hoping for 25 mpg since I was going rather slow.
