I read some of your post ... should I try that Auto RX ? ?

The paper just stated multiple exhaust leaks- need to starrt with replaceing gaskets ......

Thank you for the website as well...
I accidentally spelled the website wrong, it's actually www.cartalk.com, no hyphen (i've correct the original post). Look under "Mechanics Files".

I wouldn't try Auto-RX just yet, first confirm that it is actually leaking.

I think you need to get another opinion from an independent mechanic first to find out what work actually needs to be done. I suspect not much.

Dealerships are for newer cars under warranty, if you have too much money to spend, you like sitting and having complimentary food and conversation with other customers, and you like to drive around complimentary loaners for your $$$ repairs. Older vehicles, go to a local recommended shop and save the money. You'll find a good one who can give a real quote.

I would keep the RX if she's treated you good thus far. The engine and transmission if running fine thus (no slug and no hesitation) far should continue to do so.

Don't take this the wrong way but you don't sound like someone who knows much about car repairs or doing any work on the car, etc. By far most Lexus owners are like (including my wife) that and that's what the dealerships strive on. If I were in your shoes I would find a trustworthy independent mechanic and get a second opinion. The dealership in my area gave an estimate of $650 to my wife to "fix" the emergency brake on our '03 RX300 because it failed the state safety inspection. It took me 15 minutes to get under the car and adjust the cables. Next day it passed the inspection. Knowledge is power.

I go to an independent mechanic who is completely honest.
Sometimes I wish he wasn't so honest.

I dropped off one of my older cars and when I went to pick it up he told me,
"Well, I fiddled with the carburetor and seemed to have it running fine, then I got this bill from my daughter's orthodontist and I had to pull the engine."

Couldn't have said it better myself. There are more bad than good the industry it is always hard to find a good mechanic and this is why. I seriously doubt the this list altogether.

Even if it did cost 3k+ you should consider keeping it. Another way to approach this would be to think if you were given for free an otherwise good running Lexus needing 3k in repairs would you take it? You already have the car. Can you purchase something nearly as good for 3k? If you do decide to ditch it PM me I would gladly spend 3k to have a second RX

Have you priced a new rx350? Nice but not THAT nice. Lousy viability too!
Suggest you find a Japanese car specialist Indy. repair shop that is AAA approved.
Google for reviews on local shops. Like the other guys said be informed! Have the tech show you where the "leaks" are. My 02' is still going perfect at 135k. First owner replaced the power steering unit. I bought at 85k and just did the timing belt and rear struts. Also just put Michelin-LTX® M/S2 , after the old LTX measured 3-32 tread after 60K I have enjoyed oil changes at Oil can Henry's, if you have in your area. Just ignore them tying to sell you add ons and cleaners. I like them because they triple check all the fluids, and show you fluid conditions before and after the service. They are clean friendly
and professional.
