Default RX300 Heat Shield help!

rx300 2001 I am looking for used or savage heat shield the one in the back of the car which protect the gas tank. Called Stealer quote $400 for the aluminum heat shield part. I been calling about 8 places in VA and MD savage and Junk yard but no luck. If you know where I can find one please help! Thank you!

My just got damage today on the highway don't know what I hit but heard the big bang under the car, when I got to work take a closer look saw the piece of aluminum all bent out of shape, call up the dealer to identify the part, it was a back heat shield protect the gas tank from the muffler heat.

How about reshaping the piece?

It does not need to be perfect.

By intuition, during normal assembly process shield goes on first and the shaft and exhaust.

Since yours is damaged, you will have to make the call. As you will be beating the sheet back in shape, you would like easy access to test it out again and again. So removing both may be the best way to do the fix.

You can try to bend the sheet ... more or less like a street repair. I would get large washers (fender washers) to bridge over ripped holes.

If you do remove the drive-shaft... remember to mark each connection, as the shaft MUST be attached the same way that you remove (to get rotational balance. If you dont then you will get a rumble and it will take many attempts to fix it). I dont have AWD, but have worked on rear wheel drive vehicles and they use a support. The support has side to side adjustment and if you have to unbolt it, remember to mark its position. Bright colored spray paint is good to establish exact mount point. Safety glasses are a must working underneath.

Default Heated O2 Sensor Protection Shield available new for about $ 13

I think you're dealer was trying to rip you off with that quote for $ 400. A new replacement Heated Oxygen Sensor Protector is available for about $ 13: http://www.lexussouthatlantaparts.co...943748010.html
