Outside temperature display is way off
Hi all,
I bought a used 1999 RX300 with 191k last summer. At that time I noticed that the outside temperature display was way off. It regularly read 110+ F. The alternator died pretty soon after I got the truck, and I had it replaced at a Lexus dealer. When they replaced the alternator, they tested the battery and said it checked out fine.
But my temperature display is still showing a really high temp. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know of a cheap/easy way to correct it?

Sensor is up in the front bumper. Maybe see if it came loose and is touching the radiator. I think the sensor is cheap and easy to replace.

It took me a minute to find the sensor (had to look from under the bumper), but I finally found it and it looks pretty secure. I may look into finding a replacement sensor to switch it out with and see if that fixes the problem. It's not really a critical fix, but it'd still be nice if it actually worked.
Thanks for the tip guys.

When you it is not accurate, +/-10 degrees comes to mind. Stuck at 110 is a failure.
If the display stays at 110 all the time, I am willing to bet it is a bad sensor or something is bad in the wiring. The radiator should take time to warm up.You can try unhooking the sensor and see if the reading changes. If it drops to min, then for sure it is the sensor. If it stays at 110, then it could be the sensor or the wiring.

It isn't "stuck", as I've seen it display different values, usually between 105 and 119. A cursory check online shows the sensor going for around $25 at the major auto parts places, possibly cheaper if I can find a deal. I think before I order anything I take the sensor off to see what happens.
