Default Upgrade the tranny fluid cooler?

I'm entertaining the idea of going to a larger transmission fluid cooler and mounting it in front of the a/c evaperator. Anyone done this or have any comments either way on this?

I actually was going to try that on my old RX300...However I did add an external transmission filter made by purolator....used a PH8 style filter which added about 1 quart to the system...Worked fine for the remaining 8 years that I had the car....

It's a great idea to add an additional transmission cooler. They are easy to install as well, you just need to find a good place. Heat is the leading cause of transmission failure, and the stock transmission cooler is small, and in a terrible place with barely any air flow.

I always felt that removing that cooler in the wheel well and moving it infront of the radiator would have been the best mod ever. Just never got around to it...

Are there any write-up for the external filter?

So when I was going to tackle this external filter I ordered this Perma-Cool 10677. I ordered it from summit racing, like 2 1/2 years ago, it comes with instructions on installation.
Here is the link:

Installations instructions are attached.
I still have it, never got a chance to install it on my RX300, then I traded it in.
PM me if you want it and well work something out.

I was cautioned by a Lexus mechanic against adding a cooler that vents the heat through the the radiator because, he said, Toyota didn't size the system for it. He said there was no harm in adding an additional cooler as long as it did not vent the heat back into the system in the manner typically used by other car manufacturers.

I added an additional redundant cooler, a "stacked plate" design behind the stock factory "tow package" cooler, and cut the fender liner exit vents larger with an exacto knife. I also added a 4" 12 volt (computer) fan under the winshield washer bottle in the ducting in right front fender. The fan draws a fraction of an amp, and I connected it to a Hayden fan thermostat set at the lowest setting. I would have used a larger fan, but there isn't much room. It doesn't seem to need a lot more flow. This seems to help vent out a lot of heat without pumping it back into the system.
