Default DIY Navigation Installation 2000 RX 300

This is my new project to upgrade 2000 RX 300 (no navigation only pioneer premium sound system) with 2001 RX OEM used GPS navigation. I read few upgrades of RX's with new navigation. Today I got used OEM 2001 RX navigation. First of all I need electrical manuals for Navigation system. If any member has it please feel free to share with me. I like LEXMEX's concern about Iphone connectivity with RX navigation screen. I wants to add backup camera ( bought boyo VTL 402c) with the screen, service records etc. Don't worry about the GPS system too much. 01'RX may be GEN 2 gps. I know few of our members upgraded navigation like YoshRX300. I tried to contact with him but no respones yet. Here is some pics of used 2001 navigation. I will post step by step details with pictures of my project when it done.

Sweet! Let us know how it goes. Also, if you don't mind sharing how much the total project costed you at the end, would be great.

Thanks to all who gave me infos for links, pics, documents. Specialy thanks to Lexmex, flash14,irishcharm. I got lot of info's from TIS for match wiring diagrams with 2001 RX 300 w/nav and 2000 RX w/o nav. Here is little update for my lot hours research out put. For non/nav RX you need to tap lot of wires from Nav ECU, Amplifer to the head unit radio and multi display screen. I was searching for the custom harness couldnot find. But found one gentleman in the web asking me $800 dollar but he don't want to sell the harness without whole unit. So I was looking for alternate way to make myself. Those harness in the 3rd pic I bought with nav unit. At the 1st pic you will see three harness connected with the ECU. Those are: 1. empty, 2. N4 harness 10 pins goes to multi display terminal of M4 for video out,
3. N3 18 pins for audio out to the front right speakers (I have to tape wires with the amplifier),mute, ground etc. 4. top small harness for gps antenna.

Here is few pics of back of 2001 Rx with nav multi display screen and radio. First pic of radio (different than 2000 rx w/o nav) with harness: 1.R6 (20 pins) for Radio/cassette assembly (connected with battery, illumination, TX+, TX-, Mute, ACC ANT etc.), 2. R7 ( 12 pins) Radio/cassette assembly (connected with TX+, TX-,Eject). These pin connections already we have our non nav radio harness R2, R3, R4, I just have to match with the designated pins and wires.I added pdf radio digrams for both RX's. Second pic you will see 3 connections. Those are:1. M5 (8 pins red arrows) blue for mostly power, ground acc etc. 2. empty white for video input (like Ipod, Iphone etc.), 3. M4 (red line) blue connected with the nav ECU N4 for video input. 4.M3 white (14 pins) for radio, instrument panel connection, speed sensor, parking brake, etc. I will post all the updates.

Finaly today I completed the test installation of gps navigation retrofit in my 2000 RX 300. I attached the Vais Tech SL2VU for Iphone/Ipod audio/video integration. I will attached the backup camera with navtools and show you later. Here is the link of some videos.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAFl46DRlho

That is awesome! Especially, the fact that you can mirror your iPhone onto the display. Pretty sweet!
I really have to think about doing this.
Also, it would be awesome if you could do a video on what you can input into the service records part of the system. That's really one of the reasons I want it, I can track all the maintainance on the RX as well as my iPhone.

sweet ya i did the same on mine except i traded in before i did the vais unit, what does it look like when you just play audio on your ipod on the screen, Im using the SLU Vais unit on my Gen 4 sc430 I am assuming your running Gen4 on the Rx300 right?

I didnt think that model Vais unit would work like that but I got what I ultimately wanted by hooking up a WDTV unit.

I have Gen 4 Nav in my RX 300. For current models Ipod has tv out option and for Iphone mirror you need the following applications, TV out2 mirror or Screensplitr in jailbreak phones.

Last month the weather was not that great in new york city that's why I could'nt complete. So far I've tested it but you've probably seen the video on youtube. Next Monday I'll leave the U.S. for a month and will post the complete DIY with videos and pics in April.

Good morning. I just got back from the other parts of the world on April 9, 2012. But the time zone makes me sleepy (Now there is 6.00 PM and NYC 8.00AM). I saw lot of Toyota cars in Bangladesh (where I visited) using aftermarket touch screen gps module for audio/videos, bluetooth and backup camera in various models like Allien, Premeo etc. I was trying to touch with the forums by Iphone but the slow internet service and time doesnot permit me to do so. Hope I will complete my Navigation project soon.
