Default Clear Front Blinker Bulbs

do they make clear bulbs that will still light up with some yellow or orange color to replace the ugly yellow bulbs in the front? has anyone successfully 'cleared' out the front blinkers?

You're describing Philips SilverVision Bulbs:
http://www.autolamps-online.com/halogen/svpage.htm

They come in size: PY21W

2001-2002 RX uses a 7440 bulb, so no-go there

Dunno if it'll fit the 99-00 model year...1999-2000 uses an 1157?

I've also heard of people spray painting the amber bulb with a thin coat of silver heat-resistant paint to make look-alike SilverVison bulbs.

ok.........doing this from memory. here in this pic you will see all the nuts/screws that need to be removed to pull the light out. i forget all the sizes but i believe the top green arrow points to a 10mm bolt..........the other 2 green arrows are in the fender well and are 10mm nuts i believe.

the red arrows are phillips screws.

rear pic of the light housing. green points to the 10mm nuts/bolts placement. i think i put that yellow arrow there for to point to the amber lens that needs to be removed.

you can see a chunk of the amber lens on the floor from the other headlight....hehe

these were taken about 4 months ago i believe.....probably longer.

as far as actually removing the amber lens.........wow.........lots of work to get that little piece of plastic out. there isn't a whole lot of room to work with. i used a dremel and started grinding the edge off of the lens. be careful not to rub the housing and accidently grind it.......

after i got the edges off the amber "cup" fell into the housing. i grabbed it with needle nose pliers and unfortunately it was too big to pull thru the hole.

so i got another set of needle nose and held it with one while breaking pieces off with the other. tedious, frustrating work. i guess it was worth it though. it cleans the front of the lex up.

also when grinding the amber lens with the dremel, make sure to have a powerful vacum on it while you are working. if not you will end up with amber "saw"dust inside the housing and will take a loooooooooooong time to get it out. found this out after doing the first light.

hope that helps..........good luck

Knocked one of mine out today. Took me two and a half hours. It was no problem getting the orange cup off. I used a soldering iron with an old tip bent 90 degrees, cut through like butter. The hard part was getting the cup broken up enough to get it out with out messing up the bulb socket. When I got to the round part of the bottom of the cup, I took a straight soldering iron tip and melted it in half while holding it with needle-nose-pliers. It came right out. Got to be careful with the iron but it didn't cause any dust or particles in the lens cover. I'll work on other side next weekend.
