Hi there, new member here.
My mom gave me her RX300 a couple years ago. It had 240,000when she gave it to me, it now has 367,000 miles and after doing the spark plug tube seals and valve cover gaskets (did it myself) she is once again running strong, original transmission too.

Update on my 1999 RX300.currently 216,000
I have done all 4 struts & mounts in the last year, I was involved in a medium/minor head-on collision (not my fault) & got a new LF fender & headlight, bumper, condenser etc.. $4,000 in damage AGAIN you will remember that I hit a deer two years ago & did $4,000 in damage. This poor RX
I also bought 4 225/70R-16 General AltiMAX RT43, But I have been having some codes as of late (to lean) & the ABS light is set.
Two weeks ago the check engine light started blinking. I got the Actron CP9550 OBD-II PocketScan Plus Diagnostic Code Reader by Actron tool out & checked the codes #6 is missing. So I checked out "How to diagnose and fix a Lexus RX 300 misfire, stumble, check eng" on YouTube ]http://youtu.be/VlfqoGEECYQ[/URL]. Check it out it is pretty good & helped me a lot.
I ordered 6 coils from eBay for $75.00 as opposed to over $100 each at Lexus or $82.00 each at Autozone. I will tell you #1,3,5 are kinda hard to do mostly because of access but it isn't a extremely difficult repair. I recomend removing the cruise control bracket (1 Bolt) for #3 & 5 and removing the choke bracket (2 Philips) & remove the PCV Valve connecting tube for #1.
I will be going to the muffler shop & getting a exhaust gasket replaced & a piece of the exhaust replaced. I won't be doing this myself because it' headed to 9 below zero here tonight. The ABS light will have to wait. I also recently had the speedo go out & I have replaced one of the two sensors & swapped them around to no avail, luckily I have a Garmin 3790 that I have been using as a speedo. I did order a new (used) guage cluster off of eBay for $43.00 freight included that I will try as soon as it arrives. The ABS will have to wait I can live without it. I'm also getting ready to change the diff oil & transfer case oil & I'm going to do my first transmission fluid change since I have owned the car (64,000). My mechanix was of the belief if it works don't mess with it. But I'm giving in to changing it. The gear oil I'm going to use is Mobile 1, for about $11.00 a quart for full synthetic, I can't see spending twice as much on Royal Purple..
That's it for my update.. It really isn't as bad as it sounds!

1999 RX300
296,000 miles.
Second owner, (purchased from my dad in 2003 with 70,000 miles). Transmission done at 70,000 just before i purchase it.
I am religious of oil changes at every 3,000 and have done them all myself. Just counting, that is over 70 oil changes. Mainly regular maintenance. Tires, brakes, oxygen sensors, etc. Going for the bug 300K. I love this car, it still looks great (being in the north all its life) and i still drive it 45 miles to and from work each day.

Newbee to this site
Hello everyone, first post. I have a 1999 RX300 AWD, 175,500 miles, that I bought from a tow yard auction that you could not open doors or hood to see what you were bidding on. Ended up getting the RX for $1900 with a clear title ($2053 with the sales tax). The interior is in real nice condition (no rips or tears, just normal wear) and under the hood looks stock and is in great condition plus it has new tires. While driving it home the engine had a miss fire. Had the code read at Autozone and it was random miss fire on #2. So, I checked the plugs (all looked new) and I rotated the plug coils, #2 to #6, #6 to #4 and #4 to #2. (Of course I had the neg battery cable off to reset the computer) Fired it up and again a miss fire. Back to Autozone. This time the code said random miss fire on #6. Wa La, I know what the problem is, the coil. Autozone wanted something like $80 for one. So on to eBay, found a guy selling new ones for $20 with shipping. While waiting for the coil to show up, I changed the oil (Mobile 1 of course) and a Fram filter. Coil showed in 2 days, I put that puppy on and the problem of the miss fire was fixed but had an oil leak from the filter that I couldn't stop. So I went to Club Lexus site and read about changing oil but using a K&N 2009 filter. Got one of those (the rubber is wider and thicker and the 2009 is also longer making it easier to put on and take off) put it on and problem solved, no leaks.
I don't know any history of the car (timing belt, water pump etc.) but everything works great like it should except for the power antenna but haven't looked into that yet.
So far I'm loving the car and would have no problem driving it anywhere.
Alan

always used 5-w 30. SuperTech high mileage non synthetic is what i have been using for years. Available at Walmart for $14 for 5 qts. Always use a fram standard 3614 filter. Good luck. BTW, i use this same oil on my wife's car and had similar results. Her engine is now at 200K. Again, i am religious about changing it every 3K.
