Default Bought an RX300

Hey guys!

Just bought a 2001 RX300 AWD for myself as a supplement to my BMW coupe. Car is very quiet, very smooth, extremely well built, but quite slow. Overall no complaints as my bimmer was falling apart inside and I needed a bigger car. 88K Miles, 1 owner, all records, 3 keys etc. + a 3 year powertrain warranty all from an Acura dealer.

Now, I don't know if I can explain this but i'm hearing a random noise from the dash, not loud, sounds like its from the cassete deck/cd deck, but I can't for the life of me shut it off. It is intermittent.

Any idea what it could be?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Club!

You will love the RX, and what it has to offer.

The noise you are hearing is probably one of the servos, air mix servo or mode servo. I believe someone above already posted a link.

Please post pix, I would like to see what an old-school RX looks like. I''m sure you will love it as much as I love mine which I bought last week.

Uploaded some pictures. Car stopped making the sound.

I am still surprised by how quiet and well built this car is. My BMW sounds like a roar, which I guess it is cause it is a modified coupe. Build/Interior quality is stupendous - my BMW has left me quite surprised as it is very barebones and parts are falling off.

It also seems to get reasonable mileage - 20-25 MPG on highway.
I feel like I paid a bit too much for it though.

Hopefully I will buy another Lex soon.

Congrats on the RX!

It's been a very good SUV for us. And the folks on this forum are great help. Some good "stickys" up top are very helpful on routine maintenance.

Welcome and enjoy!

BTW, the RX300 is 'quite slow' only if you've never owned a truly slow vehicle, before.

It's odd, in that, the first 60 feet of acceleration feels slower than it should be, likely because of the AWD, but it's not pokey, for what it is.

Go drive a '99 Suzuki Grand Vitara, any early-to-mid 80's MB diesel, or any GM sedan of that same time frame, and get back to me about 'slow'.

8-P

I cannot identify the BMW coupe you have from the picture, but I'm going to go with a late-90's 325i based on your description.

1.5-2.0 seconds slower to 60 MPH from -0- isn't huge. The RX is rather well-insulated from the outside world.

It a great car and we loved it! 2001 RX300 White got it for 11yrs 150K run like champ! doing 140miles everyday. One of the best car I ever own! I am looking to another 100K on it. Of course it need TLC regular maintenace, Lucky I know quite a bit of maintenace, just can't do the timming belt and spark pugs, have to paid the Stealer to do it , the rest runing like an oil machine!

I did learned a lot on this forum Thank eveyone which contribute to this forum!
