Default Sold my SC400 for an RX300 need some advice

As the title says I am going to be upgrading to an RX300
2001 RX300 front wheel drive
with ONLY 65K miles on it
I have compared dealer and autocheck records and have confirmed it infact does have 65k on it.

Question 1: does this year and model have the transmission problem?

Question 2: Is there anything in particular I should look out for that breaks in this year and model

THANKS and I hope to contribute to this forum in the near future

They're great cars. With care, you'll get tired of it before you wear it out. The trans problems are mostly associated with the 99/00 models but they all require serious maintenance, fluid changes at least every 20k IMHO.

I would do a complete fluid change on the car, oil, trans, brakes, radiator, power steering, all of it.

Have you checked the maintenance records at lexus.com?

Mine had 75K when it got totaled in March, I was going to drive it another ten years!

Find the link for Lexus Driver, you can register the car by VIN and every service performed at a dealer will be there.

Dont know if it is an upgrade. SC's shape is so beautiful. I drool over the engineering in the door hinges. The motor is SOLID and it is the best cruiser ever. The only edge the RX enjoys is the utility and high seating position (view). The SC will surely outlast the RX.

People have had problems with transmission but that does not mean every (or majority) RXs have a problem.

Great. I was able to find it.

I am glad to hear that the 2001 should be spared of any tranny issues

Like others have said, trans issues were mostly in 99'/ and early 00'.
But, to be on the safe side do a drain and fill on the transmission every 15k (or every year).

What carver said re; doing a good trans service. However the transmission problems were the awd trannies. So your good in that department. You are do for an air flow sensor at any time now though.

Anyone had any problems with

1. Window Regulator
2. Power lock buttons stop working? (Some GS300 models)
3. Sunroof stops working
4. A/C evaporator box crack (known problem in gs300)
5. Cluster light or radio lights burning out? (early model LS400)
6. Power seat going out?
7. Steering wheel tilt not working (not sure if it has tilt?)

Nice find, Chicotrini. Best of luck with the RX. Like everyone said, they're built to last. I probably see more 1st gens on the road than 2nd or 3rd. That says a lot.
