Does the radio/cassette work at all when you switch it on?

Try disconnecting battery for 15~20 minutes.

Short usually pops a fuse. So check the box in cabin ... near/behind the coin-box .. near the left knee of the driver.

There is another fuse box in the engine bay .. near the battery.

Salim

Most of the screen problems go away once you remove the key from ignition ... the next time you insert the key, the system sort of soft boot (restart) ... the 15~20 min is like a hard reset. Apparently it is not a software problem.

Sounds like he blew the dome light fuse which feeds the instruments also.

The fuse box has colored (based on amp) fuses. There is a label that tells which fuse is positioned at what location. Pull the fuse that Thomas mentions or simply pull one fuse at a time and see if the metal in the fuse has broken off (blown off).

It is imperative that you put back the same fuse in the slot you pulled it out from. There should be spare fuses in there too. Just make sure you use the same rating (color or read off the number like 15A).

Let us know if you are having a problem locating the fuse-box.

If it is confusing for you, ask your brother to replace the fuse ... it is easier than replacing the light bulb with LED. But then again, maybe you should not.

I replaced all the bulbs myself with LED's but he bought one that was brighter and thought he could do it. Apparently not.

This morning I took the change thing out and found the fuse box. I also found the spare fuses but I had to go to school so I will be checking the fuses when I get home today. Thanks you all for all your responses :]

Be aware I am getting on a soap box ....

There is wattage and there is lumins. The wattage is the power consumed and for light bulbs, based on efficiency, the light output is what you get in lumins. Then there is color spectrum and sensitivity of human eye to particular light frequency. The last part is what as humans we see and derive pleasure from. [if you understand this, the multiple wattage on house bulbs that you see in stores would make sense]

For the vehicle the important issue is the wattage (assuming a steady voltage of 12v, it is the current draw). Current flow distribution is done by the wire harness and a protection is added to each branch by a fuse. Note this fuse is never set close to the current draw (there is a margin).

In my view, each load (light bulb) that you replace should draw the same current or less and never more. Simplistic way to determine that is to make sure the new load is of less wattage or is the same.

If your fuse popped due to accidental short, then you are fine. BUT if it happens because the new bulb was the one that broke the camel's back, then you must recheck all the new bulbs for the wattage. This is because you are violating the headroom already provided in the circuit by the fuse.

... getting of the soap box.
