Question gas leak from top of tank/fill neck

When I fill the gas tank there is considerable gas leaking from the top of the tank on the fill neck side. Can anyone give me an idea how to drop the tank and inspect the area? What needs to be disconnected? Is this common? 150K miles 1999 AWD.

Droppi9ng the tank is lot more elaborate. I would try to tackle it from the filler end.

No it is not a common problem.

thanks for your reply. Does anyone have any diagrams for the area? How do I remove the filler neck? A quick look at the filler neck and I can see that it runs down behind the plastic cover of the rear wheel well. If I take the tire and cover off will the fuel lines be accessible?
