Smile What do you RX300 owners do for a living?

Hello all:

I'm new and just found this awesome board for the RX300. I'm not a lexus owner yet but hopefully soon in about a year. I'm a pharmacy student in my last year on rotations with a graduation date of May 2003 (Can't wait and counting down the days). Anways I've been looking at houses and cars on the net for what I can afford on a pharmacist salary. I've looked at BMWs, Acura, and other SUVs, but the Lexus RX300 really caught my eye. The interior just looked so nice. Anyways I'm currently driving an old 87 Tercel, but it does the job of getting me to classes and now to my rotation sites. So I guess I'm a Lexus RX300 wannabe for now. I may be first in line to get the next RX300 model next year, but who knows for now. Anways I was wondering what a lot of you guys do for a living?

Also a quick question, the stereo system controls seem to be integrated with other controls like A/C or heat etc.. Maybe I'm totally wrong, since I don't own one, but is it possible to get a different stereo installed like an alpine or kenwood?

Take care all.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I'm just a college student who's graduating in June (I'm a UC student majoring in Communication and minoring in Org'l/Business Mgt). Since I waited until college for a car (they got my older sister a car a week after getting her license....and she couldn't make any payments because it was already paid off by the time she was working), my parents were kind enough to get me one of my dream cars for graduation (1 year early) instead of what most kids my age are driving. BUT, once I graduate, I'm supposed to take over the monthly payments for the next 12 months. That'll make me want to get a j-o-b asap But technically, I guess it's my parents car because they are paying for the 1st year (+down payment), even though I'm the one driving it.

Minow, my dad is also a pharmacist...and he refuses to drive anything but his 1987 Corolla

I'm a family practice physician. My wife is an RN but has not practiced since birth of our second child 5 years ago. #1 son plus anticipation of boyo #2 led to my replacing her ES300 with an RX in June of 99. May get the GX470 for her in a couple of years as me fine young droogs ("Clockwork Orange" a little before your time, I think) get larger.

Congrats on getting far enough to see that the light is actually the end of the tunnel and not another train!!

I too dreamt of owning the RX all the time while in college (and rode a $85 bike from Walmart) and bought the RX first thing after graduating(well, almost) last year with my MS in Computer Science.

Welcome to the club and goodluck on your school and carreer. What I do is an Oracle Developer/DBA. It pays good enough to afford a Lexus.

To answer your question, if you want to change the stereo? yes you could do that. But why? It already comes with a nice sound system. Check the other threads there are a lot of stereo modifications and dvd players that other members did to their RX's.

Oooh, the horrid memories!! Not so fast mooretorque. One of the book/movies we studied last year in a Lit. and Film class was A Clockwork Orange. The horror... I remember starting in on the book and wondering how in the WORLD I was going to make it through the end with this new language I had to learn. It was real horrowshow I, your humble narrator, understand the meaning of the story, but still feel it to be inappropriate. I think it is because of the movie. I don't care what anyone says, the movie was a porno. Kubrick...God rest his soul, was an interesting fellow - to put it mildly.

So, anyhow, I'm a Junior at Mercer University studying for a Computer Information Systems degree. Minor in Spanish

Default computer programmer (what else?)

Looks like we've got a fair number of technology related people here. I work at a network software company, one that does work with the government, and fortunately it's still alive.

My wife's an Optometrist, as of this past May, but she hasn't practiced yet since we're expecting our first kid in October. We bought the RX as a mommy-mobile (no offense intended to those tricking out their rides =) ).

I for one, will admit that A Clockwork Orange is before my time. All I remember is a scene where some guy gets his eyes taped open, and is brainwashed.

Hi all:

Thanks for welcoming me in. These were some great responses on what you guys do.

Anways I only asked if the stereo can bechanged becuase while thumbing through a Crutchfield magazine, I notice a lot of new stereo can play Mp3s. I didn't think the Lexus stock stereo can play it so thats why I wondered if an different stereo can that can play Mpw3s can be installed. Is the Lexus Rx300 stereo capable of playing Mp3s? If not, maybe the next generation RX300 can next year when I'll be more ready to buy. Anyways I heard that the stock stereo is really great and I'll probably will not mess with it when I purchase this SUV.

I just noticed that as a pharmacy major (Nuclear pharmacy), it's kind of odd that out of all the SUV's I've looked at, I just happened to like the model with "RX" in it (Rx is the symbol for pharmacy). Fate?? I guess it just makes sense to someone up there.

If you are curious whether or not the RX's CD-Changer can play MP3's that are burned onto a CD-R or CD-RW, it can. Companies like to advertise stereos as MP3 players, when they've all they are really doing is playing burned CD's. Most CD players are able to do that anyway.

I have used a wide variety of media in the RX with no problems: TKD, Memorex, Maxell, PNY, and others.

I poked around with the RX's name on here before

What????

Since when can the RX CD player understand MP3 file format??
I think you meant to say "music encoded in the CDA (CD Audio) file format on CD-Rs" right?

There's a big difference... MP3s on one CD can hold several hours of music depending on the encoding speed.... but you need a newer player that can understand MP3 file format (the CD-R itself is simply the "envelope"). CDA format on a CD-R is a little over an hour at most.
