Talking Trans.

Yep 95k and now it needs a new trans. Man i was trying to sell it but may have priced it to high. I only got one call. So the rebuilt will cost 2150.00 plus labor. After a week the shop gave me a rental car. I really like the RX300 and i got a silversport. This is my second one. Has any one gone past93k and not had to rebuild trans?

I have 160k on the original trans, and my uncle has past 300k on his original trans. Both of our RX's are AWD, neither one of us has ever had any problems.

181k miles on the original tranny. So far so good.
I have regularly serviced the fluids myself.

DIL's has about 150k on her '99 AWD. 1st change was 97k mi and the fluid was nasty. I have been able to get it away from them long enough to change it once since then at about 145k. I do a complete change by removing the return line and pumping it through with the internal pump. it seems to be fine so far.

Aside from miles, could y'all tell us what brand and type of transmission fluid you're using?

2001 Rx300 AWD with 88K on orig tranny and currently on Amsoil.

There's your issue; lack of maintenance.
Don't blame Toyota/Lexus, blame yourself...

Hyper- He probably believed the sticker Toyota put around the top of the dip stick "no need to change under normal conditions". Seems reasonable, right? T/L should have had a recall and replaced that sticker with one that said when you change your underwear, remember to change the tranny fluid. Yep, I know the whole story on the fluid thing. You would have thought that they would have tested it enough to realize the AWD turns nice pink fluid to used engine oil "look alike" in way less than the life of the vehicle. I'm not at all happy that my wife's new '11 Camry doesn't even have a dip stick, no way to check, much less change, except for however the dealer does it.

Well, regardless of whether the transmission was serviced or not (we don't know), the RX300 transmission has problems!

Problems, yes. But, it's not as bad as it sounds. The tranny issue is blown way out of proportion.

02 transmission failure at 131,000. Like a car's dipstick, we all have an opinion... I think it would be hard to ignore the many transmission failures associated with the RX300. That and sluge, which I have avoided with luck, Mobil 1, cleaning, are the two issue I would say occur at a rate higher than normal. It is still a wonderfully driving car and with the "new" transmission I am looking forward to many more enjoyable miles. Russ
