Fuel gauge reads low with full tank
After several refuelings on my 99 RX I have noticed that after I fill the tank and restart the RX, the fuel gauge only registers at about 3/4 to 7/8s full. I try not to spill fuel but am fairly sure I am filling the tank to the reasonable limit. I understand that a loose fuel cap can cause fits for the evap emission system so I am sure that I tighten the cap. Also I do not get any DTC lights with this situation. I did a search but did not find any topics on this low reading gauge problem. Should I suspect the mechanisim in the fuel tank?

Try unhooking the battery cable for a bit and then reconnecting. I usually got an issue in Mexico when the fuel level was low, the light would come on way early, and that usually did the trick.

I did that and the gauge now reads "full" as it should with a full tank of fuel. Thanks for the simple tip. It worked. But I am still stumped as to what caused the low reading. Did I really fix anything? I guess I will find out over time.

It may happen a few more times. I still think some crud in the tank somewhere is the culprit here and I use to run fuel injector cleaner regularly when I lived in Mexico as a result.
