It is difficult to compare it with a camry but more like a highlander fwd.
Below is worth checking from your VIN number, it gives you info on what you purchased.

A quick VIN decode for the RX300:

First 3 digits: Country of manufacture / company / plant code
JT6 or JTJ = Toyota, made in Japan

Digits 4 - 8: Model and Powertrain Options
????? = RX300, 2WD (don't know! I'm guessing it's GF10U, if the pattern is like the 330)
HF10U = RX300, AWD

Digit 9: Check digit - computed based on all other digits

Digit 10: Model Year
X = 1999
Y = 2000
1 = 2001
2 = 2002
3 = 2003

Its a 1MZ engine.

I wouldn't go as far back as 94 for a motor, but look at the V6 camry's & Lexus ES300's from 98+ The closer to the build date [1999] the better as it will virtually eliminate any room for error in terms minor changes in the engine from year to year [ie. sensor relocation, etc] - not that there should be any.
