Default 02 Rx300 transmission not coasting....

I'm new to this site but have read a ton of helpful post here and was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction about what's up with my tranny.

When I'm driving above 40mph and let off the accelerator it feels like I'm flipping on an engine brake. The tach goes down to about 1200 and then it shifts but it never feels like the vehicle is coasting. It's even more noticable when driving on the freeway at 70mph. The previous owner said he had the same problem but to the point you couldn't drive it. He replace valve body on the transmission with rebuilt unit, but soleniods were bad. Contacted supplier and got new soleniods which helped problem but totally didn't cure it. I got a great deal on vehicle so I took a chance that I could fix the problem.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The OP describes an "issue" that is typical of the RX, and also my Toyo Landcruiser (if the engine is not warm). I can't speak to the TAC comment, but the RX doesn't feel like it is coasting freely when you let off the accelerator. I don't think this is a problem. Your RX can be expensive to fix when things go wrong - I'd suggest ignoring this (if your MPG is steady and within acceptable range) and wait for something more significant.

I am no transmission expert, but this sounds more like a problem with your torque converter. I would not wait for it to get worse.....take to a transmission place, most shops will preform a free diagnosis.

I have an '02 AWD with 102K and noticed the same problem. My wife's '06 Chrysler 300 with 5 speed AWD coasts smoothly when letting off accelerator. MPGs are about the same so I just accept this as normal. I love my RX and won't give up on it. Enjoy it for all the good it has compared to other less quality rides.
