03 RX300: Front driver side door lock not working
My RX300 has been wonderful the past 4 years that I've owned it.
Today I noticed that when using the power locks (either via the button or key) that the front driver door will not lock. Some observations:
I can lock the door using the key
I can unlock the door using the key
If I lock using the key, trying to unlock via the key/power lock button does not work
Putting my ear next to the affected lock, when I try to lock/unlock there is a small click but nothing moves.
All other doors lock fine.
Any ideas where to start troubleshooting or how to fix this?

Read this long thread and learn a lot. The lock actuator assembly motor is probably bad. They cost around $260 plus labor or try this thread that many of us have used successfully....$5 repair....

I finally ordered a genric actuator, and today I will be attempting to do a piggyback method on my rear drivers side door. I will try to take pictures, and hopefully not mess anything up back there. I read that entire thread, but I'm confused as to where to attach the rod. Some say on the original actuator. Some say that there is a hole by the actual **** and handle, but then they say it's only on the front doors, then others disagree and say that it's on the rear doors as well. I'm hoping that there is just a hole to attach it to on the **** and handle assembly. Well, I'll know soon enough.

The add on actuator needs to be attached at the "END" of the mechanism. Dealing with rear, there is no external lock so there are 2 ends. One is inside the catch (OEM implements it there) and the other end is the thumb-flick. The good thing about the thumb-flick end is that it is easily accessible. Finesse is still required to attach the add-on without messing up the plastic. Looking at the pictures there is a cut out to run the rod through but you still have to drill a hole to attach the new rod to the ****. Just make sure the link-rod moves in a straight line as you position the new actuator.
I would not attempt to attach the new rod to the catch side. There is very little room inside the door. Positioning and adding the link-rod/actuator in there will be very difficult (IMHO).
The front have an additional link form the key-lock. It uses special link-rods and ball joints.
The job requires care and patience.

I like the placement of the lock more on the outside next to the inside door handle. I wish I had done that, looks so much simplier. I printed out the picture that was posted and that should explain it all

Thanks for all the replies, I'm goign to search for pictures and start printing out the threads.
Has anyone bought the generic part locally, or is it all online? I'd like to try this over the weekend (when I may be able to find a friend to help out) and haven't ordered any parts yet...

Okay, So I just finished my Left rear door. Took much longer than anticipated but I tried to make it as simple as possible and I'm sure I did. I attached the rod onto a circular positive terminal type of socket (it was small, not the type you use on cars). Then I attached that onto the thumb driven lock. It turned out fantastic, the longest part was mounting the damn actuator cause it was in a terrible place, but it came out fantastic. I think the way that I did is the easiest I've seen, well at least for the Rear door.
I'd also like to give a special thanks to everyone ont his forum and the other lexus owners forum that helped me do this, and save a whole lot of money.
