Default 99 RX 300 rear hatch

My wife's RX300 rear hatch broke today. She tried to open it, heard some snap and now it won't open. Does anyone have any info regarding the parts associated with the rear hatch handle and latch

thanks in advance

Eric

Eric, I had the latch assembly replaced on my '99. Mine did not break like yours but the handle was soft and would not unlatch easily. I listed the parts the dealer replaced below and they are still valid. You might need more but at least this can give you an idea. Maybe give one of the vendors here a call. Good luck.

6935048010 lock assy, back door (quantity 1)
6979033020 control assy, back door (quantity 1)
6777112010 retainer, door trim (quantity 3)
6777130060 retainer, door trim (quantity 2)

it's just the pull handle. The plastic tab that pushes on the release lever snapped off. easy and not so costly repair I imagine

Default Hatch handle replacement instructions????

Same thing happened to me. I went to a recycle parts place for Lexus and bought just the hatch handle.

I have the carpet panel off, but now need directions from there. Can anyone help me out, please????

Can't live without the hatch,

Thank you,
Rachel

it is relatively easy. i assume you have the carpet off and can see inside the hatch with all the wires and what not?

ok at this point you need to get a socket wrench and remove I believe there were 3 or four nuts. You are actually removing the entire trim piece where the hatch release sits. Detach all the wire harnesses too. One nut is kinda hard to get at as i recall because it sat behind the rear wiper motor.

At that point the entire trim piece falls off. Replacing the hatch release is a matter of removing the two nuts holding the old one, putting in the new one and then reattaching the trim piece.

Took me 10 minutes total.
