WOOHOO!! New Firmware Works!!!
I received the new unit today with the new firmware and my Grom Audio USB player worked like a charm. Woohoo
One thing about it, it plays very clean music even though it's off of mp3 files (mostly 128 - 256 kbps). Sounds better than a CD and I don't understand that! Incredible, clean sound from the 2001 RX standard stereo that sounds cleaner than my SC430 Mark Levinson playing CDs. I'm not exaggerating, I don't have interests with Grom Audio (wish I have), and you are welcome to listen in if you're in the area (So Cal).
For the RX300, it can read up to 99 folders in your USB thumbdrive. Think of it as having 99 discs in your changer. And, for every disc or folder, you can have hundreds of tracks in it
One little issue I noticed is that the clock on the display resets to 1pm whenever I start the car. Sounds minor which may be fixed with firmware or wiring down the road. We shall see.
Update as of June 2, 2010: the issue of clock resetting has been fixed with the replacement of a new car battery! Thanks guys! It is not an issue with the Gromaudio unit.

Will recheck it. The last time I tried to hook up the factory CD changer, the issue of clock resetting resolved itself. And I thought it was for good reason because the bunch of wires going into the display comes off of the CD changer wire loom. Thanks for the info.

It's the Battery!!!
Went to Wal-Mart to get the battery checked. Sure enough, the 700 CCA battery showed 177 CCA as tested. The battery was replaced and the clock problem disappeared! Unbelievable since the starter cranks the motor adequately every time as if the battery was strong!
Thank you thomas1 for bringing up the fix. Saved me a whole lot of trouble.
