Without even posting the video I found your suggestion and went out and sprayed it with WD40 right under the steering wheel and after 2 turns... BOOM!... Noise gone, nice a quiet. Man I wish I had of found this forum 5 years ago Here is the video incase anyone else needs to understand what noise this solution solves.

Did u searched the forum before???..there are tones of it under RX 300 model forum that owners had problems with squeaky steering wheel noise and was solved with simple silicone spray. But good to know u have no more problem

I just had to say a quick "thank you". That video was perfect. My 2000 ES300 has been making that silly noise for years. I just tuned it out. Actually came to this forum after google searching squeal for power steering pump. This little gold nugget was just a serendipitous find. So thank you!!

Thank you! Two squirts, and the steering is silent! Awesome! :-)

So, just to make sure I understand, I'm spraying the lubricant where the steering shaft goes through that dust boot at the base of the fire wall? I was thinking of spraying between the wheel and the plastic housing around the steering column?

Seems like an easy fix....

You need to locate the source and then address it.

If the shell around the steering wheel is not assembled properly, then it will rub. A close examination can tell you if the shell is crooked.

As some one said .. use your ear-***** to locate the source of the sound.

Turns out it was the shaft where it goes through the fire wall. I sprayed silicone lubricant on the shaft and it quieted right down...

I love the easy fixes....

Hi all,

My wife's RX300 2002 also makes a squeaking noise when turning the wheel only on very cold days and I wanted to try this solution as I have white silicone lubricant.

Is the shell that covers the shaft and firewall easy to remove? Are there any screws or does it just snap out?

Thanks in advance.

It should be exposed, right behind the pedals. White Lithium Grease spray made is quiet as a whisper on my 2002.

Noise in the first case is due to the pump and in the second case is typically a scrubbing sound [around the steering wheel or at the base where the link pass though the fire wall.].

When you say the pump is good, are you saying you are getting assist? I would also look for bubbles in the reservoir during or right after the pump use. Bubbles mean trouble.

I'm also experiencing a kind of sounds like sandpaper when I'm turning the wheel or some sort of spring in the blinkers section 05 es330

I would check the power steering fluid level and also check/post in ES forum.

You really need to zero on to the source of the sound. Noise is due to rubbing so use eyes and ears to locate. You may get more help in LX470 forum [crowd sourcing will be more apt]

WD40 is not the best lubricant [and many say it is not a lubricant]. Use a silicone based grease safe for rubber.
