Default How much should a strut mount replacement cost in a shop?

I noticed a clunking noise on my right front end while driving. Occurs when the roads has dips and the car weight shifts.

I took it to the local Lexus dealership for this (and two other issues, squeaky belts and VSC/engine light) to get it diagnosed.

They told me that the right front strut mount is worn out and has some play. Being a Lexus dealership they quoted me $898 which of course I'm not going to pay.

So from what I see online, a new strut mount would be about $60

What do you guys think it should cost to replace the strut mount in a non dealership shop? Also is this a huge ordeal to take it apart and replace this part?

For apple to apple comparison, you can call Lexus parts to give you the price of the part(s). You can also visit Sewell of Lexus for OEM parts and enjoy CL discount. At least one but must be replaced if you remove the strut. You can look at aftermarket parts but the OEM mounts are the best available.

Labor, I estimate 1.5hrs ... again you can call and confirm with service writer. They have a book which lists the time for a certain job.

Alignment is also recommended. Check if that was included in the quote you got.

Depending on age and the area you drive in, you may like to replace the strut. The strut itself is too costly from Lexus parts. I would suggest shocks from the same manufacturer which are available at substantial discount.

There should a DIY on strut replacement. Does require compressing the spring and for many years, I have shyed away from it (after witnessing a spring getting loose).

A decent mechanic should charge about 150-200 as they have to remove the strut to change out the strut mount. Trouble is, as Salim says, you may need more than just a strut mount.

Generally the strut mount is what causes the noise. I personally have replaced the mounts and struts (shocks). It does envolve a spring compressor and requires complete removeal of the entire strut, spring, as one piece. Like said above an independent would be a lot cheaper.
