I'm trying to decide on what to get Royal Purple or Amsoil I too have had oil consumption issues with Mobil 1 so i don't want to use that. Right now i have full synthetic quaker state Q horsepower in there and runs great with no oil consumption. I don't want to start a was or anything but which one do all of you recommend and which viscosity.And if Amsoil what type of amsoil i want synthetic but on their website they show alot of other types so can anyone help with that as well. By the way I have a 2000 RX300 with apprx. 140,000 miles on it. Thanks in advance.

i say royal purple. a friend of mine uses it on hes DA integra and he says nothing but good comments about it. i dont know anyone that uses amsoil.

I personally would not use Royal Purple. I think it's a waste... I did it once and it cost me $280 just in oil. Granted, the F has a capacity of almost 10 litres. I would probably go Amsoil or Mobil 1.

I've had the same issue with the Mobil 1 oils. I tried a few different ones 10w30, 5w30, and 0w30. I saw the least amount of consumption on the 0w30. I changed to Pennzoil Platnium 5w30, and see about the same consumption as the Mobil 1 0w30, but the Pennzoil seems to hold better under a lot of highway driving.

The Mobil-1 0W-30 seems to be really good stuff. But the PP is rated very highly on bitog.

I loved the GC 0W-30 but switched to Autozone Dino 5W-30 for two rounds of Auto RX treatments. Only 700 miles left on the finial rinse phase and I'll go back to the GC. I have a 2001 with 115K.

I am very impressed with the Royal Purple products. After seeing a noticeable difference in the rear diff and transfer case I swapped out the Amsoil for RP in my transmission.

As far as engine oil, I really like the GC 0W-30. If you are between Amsoil or Royal Purple: I doubt you engine will know the difference. It comes down to availability and price in your area.

BTW, many people on here have reported consumption issues with the Mobile 1 including myself. Haven't used the stuff in 5 years in any of our vehicles. Also, if you go with RP be VERY careful with the labeling. Almost ALL of their products are in the same purple bottle and it's easy to mix things up. Especially if misplaced on the shelves at the auto store.

I wouldn't use Royal Purple oil in my RX unless it was their gear oil. Their ATF is a step above using the Toyota Type IV ATF.

I had friends who loved Royal Purple in their vehicles back in Mexico, but again these were racers who drove their vehicles to death. I also should mention I wouldn't use Redline in my RX300 either.

For me there are 3 oils:

Castrol 0W30
Amsoil 0W30
Pennzoil Plantinum 5W30

in that order.

Amsoil I like a lot, but the problem is they sell a good product like snake oil and they don't need, too. In fact, they actually botch a good product and make competitors look better with all the websites run by their distributors. We're not stupid and the lovely people on bitog know better, too.

Royal Purple and Redline tend to run really heavy in my opinion. I had similar issues when I ran Liqui Moly's oil (Lubro Moly in the U.S.). Okay for other vehicles, perhaps V8 or forced induction vehicles, but not for the RX300.
