Default Left rear marker light

After having some body work done and them replacing the left rear marker light, the "light" warning on the dash won't clear. Does this take a special bulb or did they screw something up? I am about to tackle the "knock sensor" issue. I really appreciate the information I found here. I am a member of some other forums and have rebuilt both my 1964 Mustang and 1968 Camaro pretty much completely but this electronic age is baffling!

Hi coledigger;

Welcome!

I don't recall the side marker lights being able to trigger a bulb fault.-

Does it come on when you step on the brake petal after first starting the car?
(This would indicate a brake light)
-Or is it lit after starting the car WITHOUT stepping on the brakes?

Is your 3rd (upper) brake light working?

I've had a rear marker light flood and fail, and it didn't trigger a warning indication.

Also, I've had the rear high brake light fail after body work (I suspect vibration from sanding or pounding killed it). That did trigger the dashboard warning light.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. For some reason, my username got changed plus I couldn't ever get my temporary passwords to work. Anyhow, I tried Barryst's idea and the warning light actually does come on only after stepping on the brake pedal. All of the brake lights are working including the third light. All this time I thought it was the marker light and was trying to diagnose a ghost. I have cleared the light several times but the warning light still comes on. Is there something else I have to clear? I even had to replace the battery since this started and that didn't change anything either. Could the lamps be socket sensitive?

If all the brake light bulbs (including the high mounted) are working, then one of them is about to go out. The change is subtle enough to trigger the electronics. You can wait till the particular bulb blows out or go change them one by one, till the warning light goes off.
[Keep in mind the electronics triggers when you apply the brakes and resets when ever you turn off the RX]

-Did you by chance use one of those new LED bulbs? I don't think they show enough resistance, and will also show up as a bad bulb on your dash.-
