Difference between 99 and 2000 RX Snow/Power and Snow Button
Hello!
I have seen, the ´99 RX300 have a switch with snow/power. and the 2000 up only a button for snow. I think, this is come with the face-lift.
But what is different? Snow is to start in the 2nd Gear, ok. But POWER? Shift the transmission faster? I read many ´99 RX have defect transmissions. Is this the problem, why Lexus have this switch no longer in the face-lift?
Have one member both models driven to feel a difference?
Switch ´99:
Button ´00:
Thanks for the answers!
greets
Tom

The PWR setting tells the transmission to hold its gear for longer, and climb up in the RPM range higher before upshifts. It's good for a slightly more sporty feel to the transmissions shift point map.
In the US, the 00' model still had the PWR and snow mode switch. It wasn't until 2001 that they discontinued the PWR setting. Why did they get rid of it? Your guess is as good as mine, but probably not because of the transmission problems that plagued early models. It's probably because not many owners of the RX model would ever use it.

The PWR button was nice for racing. I'll have to take a look late tonight in my 99 RX Manual, but I have a hunch the ECU programming might be involved among other things, which would make such a project a real pain to do.
What I always wanted from the Toyota Harrier was the tiptronic function where once you were in Drive, you could shift up and down gears. Having that and also the PWR button would have been fantastic.

My impression was that it was removed to show an improved emission spec. Then the engine size went up and the performance advantage/loss was recovered.

HY!
i have searched in the www and found 3 types of Engine in the RX300/Harrier
ACU10
ACU15
MCU10
MCU15
SXU10
SXU15
ACU= 2AZFE: 2400CC 16VALVE DOHC EFI
MCU=1MZFE: 3000CC 24-VALVE DOHC EFI
SXU= 5SFE: 2200CC 16-VALVE DOHC EFI
xxx10= FWD
xxx15= AWD
here a interior of a 2,2L Harrier.
on toyo-diy are the transmissions-partnumber only different on the last 2 digits. and looks like the same.
with a wiring diagramm was easer to find a solution, but i think, its different transmissions-ECU in the cars. to modify, i think we need the gauge cluster, shift lever, steering wheel and may cables and bits and pieces.
3 Gears + O/D is ok without shift-padels, a 5-gear transmission was better with padels. I have see in the GS430 S16 no shift padels but he have 5 gears and enough power i hear, its no good for the 5-gear transmission

In Japan they drive on the left side just like the U.K.
I saw the same thing when I went to Jamaica and they had Harriers there just like this configuration.

There were I think 2 Lexus forums in Russia, and I can't remember on which, but I was reading through Google Translate on an attempt to retrofit the tiptronic function shown in the picture above. I am not sure if it was successful, but I do remember the thread went on for a bit and never found out the result.
