$2,400 for just fixing oil leaking?
My RX300 has been carefully driven and well maintained, however, I was shocked by the fact that it started leaking oil at 78,000 miles. I am not questioning Lexus’ quality, because, generally speaking, Lexus has a high quality reputation. However, this reputation does not guaranty there won’t be a “lemon”. I am afraid that, unfortunately, it is quite possible that my RX300 is one of the “lemons” (at least regarding the oil leaking issue). I was hoping Lexus could realize this fact and would take a positive step to address this issue, however, I am disappointed. The only thing I heard from your representative of “Lexus Customer Satisfaction” was “the vehicle is out of warranty” and nobody admitted about the vehicle’s quality issue. The dealership I went, Lexus Stevens Creek, brought more grief feeling onto me, because they asked a ridiculous price of $2,400 to fix the oil leaking (my friend’s Honda dealer asked $3,000 for replacing a whole transmission) and the price could not be negotiated.
Anyone had a similar situation? How did you take care it?

I would guess that is for the rear main seal. Still ridiculous though. I mean seriously what can that take 10 hours at $100 and hour and $25 in parts? You're still $1,400 out of whack. Should be able to get that fixed for maybe $700 or so. It's all labor and probably 5-6 hours I would think, maybe less.

I would say try to find a different dealership, a Toyota dealership, or an independent private mechanic and see what they can do.

Sounds like you have head gasket leak issue. That is a big labor intensive cost. I think for that kind of mileage, lexus should partially cover the charges as goodwill gesture. 78,000 miles is just about to break in.

+1 on the Stealerships, bet if it was taken to a Toyota dealer it would be 40% cheaper. We are paying for the Lexus logo !!
