There are two sets of gear shift lights, one set by the shifter and one set on the instrument panel. Which set? Have you tried to do a search? Both have been discussed.
You basically just need to remove the trim piece above the shift area to get at the bulb. It is held in by clips and you just start pulling from the top edge. You will need a Sylvania 2721 bulb, available at Autozone. Here is a discussion we had on it back when I did mine. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/show...ight=indicator
I found the instructions on here, but I remember taking the two phillips screws out somewhere on the steering wheel plastic trim cover, then you just pull the plastic window thing out with the trim, then behind that there were a few more screws to get to the bulb, it was really easy sorry I can't remember it was a few years ago.
If you're unlucky like me, the two screws at the top will be impossible to unscrew. I've tried multiple times on my 99 RX300 and failed every single time. Those must be glued in or something.
It is interesting, when i slowly hit the plastic cover of the gear shift the light come back.
But sometimes off and i hit it by hand, light on.
Could be the bulb connection in the socket. But most likely it is a burned out filament in the bulb making intremittent contact. Whatever it is, once you open things up just change out the bulb and you should be good.
