Default 2003 rx 300 door lock and shift ****

Hello. Just wondering if antone can help me. My door lock is not working. I have to manually lock it and the shift **** panel lights are out. Not the dashboard area. Sorry don't know the proper names for them. I bought this car used a few months ago.

If you can only operate the lock by the key in the door lock and moving the lock-unlock **** from inside, then the electrical door lock actuator is not working.

There has been couple of threads on that in RX forum and the most detailed one in the GS second generation forum.

The door lock actuator is quite pricey, a few years back it was $258 just for the part. As for the light in the console it can be replaced, you have to remove the center console trim and access it.

Lexus should have a recall for all RX300 models for their automatic door locks. I have had to replace the electric door locks on 3 of the 4 doors. I haven't seen a 2000 to 2003 300RX without the problems with the door locks. It is definitely a design problem. I have 157k miles without any problems except for the door locks. Heck everything works except the door locks. I've spent over $1, 800 on door lock repairs and now another one is broken. I need someone with the know how to force Lexus to issue a recall. HELP

I don't think you can force Lexus to issue a recall. It's not something recalls are issued for, but I'm no legal expert. However, they can be repaired, and you don't have to have them done at Lexus. I like the ideas shared in this forum to piggyback a universal actuator, but there are choices to repair and restore all functionality. Yeah, they could have used tougher motors, but that doesn't mean 13-15 year old cars won't have lock solenoids go bad. I've had a few go bad. I wouldn't pay Lexus to repair them. They are a pain, but still not a major problem in the grand scheme.

If you don't like the piggyback option, you can buy the door lock actuator assembly on ebay for $149 and then return the old assembly for a $40 core refund. These actuators that you can buy on ebay are rebuilt units. Likely rebuilt using the same DIY that is posted on this site.

Default Repairing Center Console Shifter Light

Here are some pictures to show you how to repair your shifter light. It's pretty easy, just be gentle removing the horseshoe trim so you don't break it. No need to force it, just be careful.
Once you have the trim removed you can remove the black piece that shows the shifter position and the bulb is right there (3rd picture). Just give the bulb socket a 1/4 turn and it will come out.. Then remove the green sleeve and the bulb. Sorry I don't have the part number for the bulb but I rember someone listing it on this forum somewhere so try searching for it. I recall that it was a pretty standard part so you might be able to take your dead bulb to the auto parts store and find a match.
