Default 2001 rx300 225/60/r16 tires

Hello,

I have a 2001 rx300 AWD. Are there any disadvantages going with a tire size 225/60/r16? The original tires are 225/70/r16. I thought I had read that the OEM tires made the speedo of by about 3MPH and I thought this would get it closer to being accurate. Actually I guess it would be alittle under. Anyway are there any other reasons to not go with the 60 series?

Thank you.

First, welcome to Club Lexus.

Second, you read my mind.

I actually was going to go with a 235-60-16, but am now leaning toward the 225-60-16 for my next tires. Yokohama Avids are in this range along with some Kumhos, for example, but in the end I will be looking at three factors

One, can the tires support enough weight, load rating?

Two, how long will the tires last, treadwear?

Three, how much do the tires weigh?

Factor number one is really the major factor to look at in going down a size in the sidewall. The 235-70-16 Michelin CrossTerrains I use right now support a bit more weight than the 225-70-16 Goodyear Integritys I ditched over 5 years ago, but they are a bit slower given more weight and larger size, rotational weight.

My major reason for going to a 60 is so I can be a bit faster and save a bit gas. However, I won't be considering such purchase until my current tires die, which should be in about 6 months or so,

Slightly less unsprung weight (given the same make/brand of tire) and more torque on the road surface for LexMex's 1/4-mile launch.
