Engine dies out after starting - very low rpm
hi. im new here and dont really know much about lexus's.... anyways, need some help figuring out the problem with my brother's lexus rx300....
The engine seems to have very low rpm at idle. When i start the car, engine dies but when i rev it up then no problem. Car is fine while driving but has very low rpm at idle. Does the lexus have an idle air control system and where is it located? Is this a typical problem, any information would be very helpful. thanks.

yes start by clenaing mass air flow meter, if that doesnt help its the idle air controll valve. keep in mind if the engine is warm the iacv will work, but when its cold is when you have problems.

As the other fine members of this group mentioned, IACV and MAF sensor are likely culprits. Another possibility is small vacuum leak on any one of the rubber hoses that connect into the air intake system, could be the one for the pcv valve, crankshaft vent, one on back of air box. In addition, moisture getting into the system (I experience this in Mexico due to the rainy season) can cause some small low rpm idle issues, but start with IACV and MAF. Don't forget the pulling the EFI sensor and battery cables off as a last resort to help reset the system.
