We have a 2000 RC300 with 171,000 miles on it.

Changed oil at 6000 mile intervals with regular 10W30 oil,
Did all normal services thru 90,000 timing belt replacement.
No normal services since then
Some sensors have been replaced,
rear main seals at 63000,
motor mounts at 75000,
A/C repair at 106000,
Original Brake pads replaced at 135000.
Alternator replaced at 148000
Replaced original hood and rear lifts at 153000

Now thinking of a used 2010/2012 RX350

i have 137k miles on my 2002 RX300. I just rebuilt my tranny. Love my car, aside from the transmission, I have had no issues with this vehicle.

I am new to Lexus and thus new to this forum. Less than one week ago, I purchased a used 2000 RX300 from a Toyota dealer. It came with 34,000 miles on it. The dealer said they call a car like this a "cream puff"... old, near mint, low miles. It sounds like I'll have many years and many miles ahead. I am now learning about the disgusting reality of overpriced keys, as it came with only two keys. I'm used to having a new key cut for a couple of bucks. Not so with this car. It sounds like three more sets of keys will be more than my first payment. I hope having a Lexus is worth it.

Yep, the keys are expensive but if you are capable, you can program an extra key yourself for a lot less. Advice at the end of the day? Don't lose the keys.

You'll also learn about engine sludge and bad transmissions. Engine sludge is a condition that will occur if you neglect the oil change frequency in this car, well any car for that matter. The engines in these cars are a little more susceptible to it due to some smaller internal engine oil passages. Advice? Change your oil regularly as per the owners manual and you won't have a problem.

Transmission. Some of us have bad ones and some don't. You'll read where some have 100's of thousands of miles on the original transmission and some don't get to 80k. Seems like a crap shoot but it is regarded that they "fixed" the transmissions in either the 2002 or 2003 MY (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Read through this board and you'll see what some do to prolong the life of their transmissions.

Bottom line is this. When you take your car do a dealer, (Any dealer, not just Lexus or Toyota), it's always going to be expensive. Someone I work with had a $510 sensor replaced in her 2008 Saturn.

Good luck. You can take comfort in the fact that you do have an excellent vehicle. Relax and enjoy it. (and don't lose the key).

I have 135,000+ miles on mine, but we bought new and it has been well maintained. I sold my 2007 Infiniti M35X and kept my wife's RX300 (she has a new Acura RDX now).

So, I am fixing all of the body issues and manning it up.

I have a 2000 RX300 with just over 152000. Fighting an ABS problem so I'll be checking the forum for solutions.

I've replaced a couple A/F sensors on the exhaust, new flex pipe and associated exhaust seals, alternator just failed last weekend but overall the SO loves the car.

Bought my 2002 RX300 AWD this year with 88k and it just turned 100k. Getting 18-20mpg with high percentage of highway miles. Replacing the down line O2 sensor has been biggest expense so far. I'm changing oil every 5k and transmission service every 30k. Love this car.

Just had it into my independent service guy for an oil change and had him do his "new vehicle inspection". He replaced a marker bulb, but said the RX is in great shape - no suggested service or repairs. Happy about our new vehicle!

Was dealer maintained until 2 years ago. Replaced the transmission around 92K which was 3 years ago. Just had a CO2 sensor go bad and the right front strut mount is clunky.

That is impressive, but I'm not so surprised. When I did my timing belt, water pump at 120,000 miles, the belt looked like it could go another 100,000. The spark plugs at 145,000 could have gone another 20,000. The original equipment quality is far superior even to replacement parts from Toyota or Lexus (different suppliers). The recommended replacement intervals are way too conservative imho.

I now have 165,000 miles on the RX , still going great. I live in California, so weather has not been harsh. The Rx is pitted, and on it's 3rd windscreen, I have done all the maintenance , since the How 2 series. I keep thinking I'll buy a JT Rx350, except this vehicle has been flawless. I want to keep my RX 300 for 200,000. Thank All of You for the tips!

My 2001 RX300 AWD with over 261K miles! Currently on the 3rd timing belt, original most everything including transmission. Replaced leak gas tank recently. Still running solid.

Original owner 1999 RX300 AWD with 243,000 miles
Original engine and transmission

Replaced knock sensors but had to do the bobster hack recently
ABS has been out for years
Currently has evap circuit malfunction code. I'll get around to it.
Recently I felt the tranny didn't feel right. I dropped the pan and replaced the filter screen, cleaned out the pan, feels great ever since.

Otherwise running well. Used it to tow a motorcycle home recently, no problems.
